Looking for another brush

Hello,

I would like to get some of your opinions on picking up either a custom Shavemac in finest, or a Rooney 1/1 in Supersilvertip (finest). I currently own a Muhle Silvertip,Vulfix 660 in super as well. I am leaning towards the Rooney, but I like that custom aspect of the Shavemac. I use mostly soaps.

Thanks for any advice.

Would you have a custom Shavemac made to the same knot size and loft as the Rooney? Even if you do, the Rooney is most likely going to be more dense and probably have more backbone. Depends what you want in a brush, both are good but will have different characteristics. The nice thing about the Shavemac is that you have a wide assortment of handles available plus can have Bernd make it to any size you want. The Rooney is a well regarded brush though if it is the size you want and has the characteristics you desire.

After speaking with Jim at Vintage I was sold on the brush considering that it will be used for mostly triple milled soaps.

Very few folks can comment on a Custom Short-loft (45mm) Shavemac in Finest. Totally different from the standard 55 to 60mm loft you get with an off the shelf Shavemac Finest brush. I only know two people that have one, and I'm one of them. I only use soaps, and the Shavemac is just as good as my 1/1 Super. Different feel on the face is all. All that said, get both! (I'm serious... both... sell your other brushes). I could be perfectly happy only owning those two brushes. They're different enough that they compliment each other nicely but perform amazingly well. All others pale in comparison, for me.

I prefer Shavemacs, but Rooneys are also very high quality brushes.

I would personally recommend a Custom Shavemac in D01, but I think that a Custom Shavemac in Finest is a better value.
