Here in a couple of weeks I plan on going on a little trip and am heading down to Austin. My question is are there and shops that have brushes that I can look at and actually hold before purchasing? I would like to see any products from Simpson, ShaveMac, Rooney, Vulfix. It would make it alot easier to shell out the cash for a brush if I could atleast hold something that it compares to first to feel for comfort of the handle and backbone of the brush.

Not sure about what Dallas or Austin have to offer but in Houston we have two stores that sell shaving supplies. One of which is Lifecheck Drugs which is located at

I live in Austin and have found two shops in the area that have most of the gear (brushes, blades, razors, etc). One is in the Arboretum area called Hero's and Legacies (it sounds like a comic book store but it's actual a cigar/mens supply store). The url is http://www.heroesandlegacies.com/ . Yesterday I popped into another cigar store just to see if it might be a common theme for those stores to carry wet shaving supplies and sure enough they had a pretty good stock too. It was called Pipe World (http://www.pipeworld.com/) and it's up in Round Rock off I-35 by the Dell campus. I actually ended up buying a new Merkur razor (think it's the classic?). Anyways the prices are a little bit more then what you can find on the web but it helped me to actually get my hands on the stuff before making a purchase. I'm going to check a few other cigar/pipe specialty stores to see if this is a normal stock item for them. Good luck.
