What's new

Looking for a new early Fall cologne

Hi All,

Well Fall is almost here in the Midwest, with cool mornings, temperate afternoons and cool evenings. For this time of year I usually put all my summer frags away and go to the traditional stuff like Polo Black, Hugo Boss, Kenneth Cole, etc..

But I'm looking for something new that kind of bridges this gap between early Fall weather to when it starts getting a bit more chilly outside.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I am by no means an expert of fragrances, and recently just started wearing them myself. I recently picked up a bottle of L'Occitane Eau Des Baux, and it seems like it's a nice scent for the cooler temps.

Nothing screams Fall like Wazamba! Notes are Somalian incense, Kenyan myrrh, Ethiopian opoponax, Indian sandalwood, Moroccan cypress, labdanum, apple, fir balsam - but to me it's basically an apple-incense. It's is my Go To for autumn fragrances. Others I like this time of year include Epicea (Creed), Bois d'Ombrie (Eau d'Italie), Jubilation XXV.

I love Sweet Redemption from Kilian as the temperatures outside start to drop a little. It's a bit pricey, but it lasts forever and is well worh it if you like Orange Blossom in your frags.

CDG Hinoki
Guerlain L'Instant Extreme
Amouage Jubilation XXV
Puredistance M

Having said that, I'd personally reach for a good Cambodian oud oil :)

État Libre d'Orange Éloge du Traître, Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Fraîche Badiane, Profumum Roma Antico Caruso or by Kilian A taste of Heaven.
Few ideas.
Last two cost a bit more than the first two.

Really Spicebomb? Isn't that the frag that comes in a bottle that looks like a grenade?

Yes. Fun bottle design. Includes a little "pin" you must pull in order to spray it on. It's a well made scent that gimmick notwithstanding.

It seems to have a bit more limited distribution. i.e. Not every department store necessarily has it. And in the stores that do have it, the cologne counter types are pushing it hard as the new kid on the block (though it has been out awhile now.)

Tried it Friday, and it's not bad. I see that it is all the rage among the younger crowd at Basenotes. Starts off sweet, but calms down a bit to something more spicy (obviously). If you're a traditional type, it may not be your cup of tea. If you're on the younger side and chasing women, this is probably a pretty good scent. I'm inclined to think women probably like this one a lot.

Reminds me slightly of YSL La Nuit and Dior Homme Intense, (Doesn't smell LIKE them per se, but has same kind of vibe.)

Feels a bit young for me, but I wouldn't feel uncomfortable wearing it after the opening notes settle down. I see feedback going back and forth over whether this is a "youthful" or "mature" scent which I find intriguing.

Probably not a good work scent for most guys. Maybe a bit frivolous. Could be a real killer at night.

As a fellow Midwesterner, I do the same and for me Vetiver is a great fall scent. I like DRH Marlborough as well as GFT Spanish Leather in cooler temperatures. Sandalwood gets more use in the cooler temps. A nice inexpensive scent is Yardley's Citrus & Wood which can be used all year round. Smallflower has it as does some other retailers.

Regards,

Doug

A couple months back me the GF were shopping at Nordstroms and we were in the cologne/shaving area in the men's department (not a fan of Nordstrom's prices but they have a great men's frag/shave department). The had a sign at the counter advertising Spicebomb, I tried a sample and it was OK. I could see a someone in their early/mid 20's wearing it. IMO not an office friendly scent since it's a bit in your face, but a really nice weekend scent.

I do think the bottle is pretty original though.:biggrin1:

It is a tad hokey and "pulling the pin" a bit much, but it's a dog fight out there to grab Joe Average. Guys in forums like this who ask questions and investigate are the exception, not the rule. I was prepared to dislike it, but it was okay. Dont know how much of a test you gave it buffdaddy, but it is not as outrageous as its opening notes would lead you to beleive. Not a typical wet shaver scenT though. I too would not wear it to work.

Yep. Maybe next time you should put your bottle design criteria in your original post. I was under the impression you were concerned about fragrance.

Um OK? I wasn't trying to be cantankerous.I was wondering if that was the frag I had seen in stores...

Ok, Next I'm out I'll have to give it another try. Maybe I just didn't give much of a chance.
