Looking for a 3rd blade

I have been wet shaving now for all of 3 1/2 months and I now have found 2 blades that I like very much. The ASTRA SP and the PERSONNA REDS. For me they both shave very smooth with no pull and they are not so sharp, so as if my angle

and or pressure is off a bit, they are forgiving enough not to cut me! I would like to add a third blade to go along with these two. I have tried DERBYS (to dull and found myself going over the same spot to many times). Also have tried

BLUE BIRDS and WILKINSON SWORD, both of which are to SHARP and not smooth enough for me. The BLUEBIRD I did not like at all, while the WILKINSON SWORD gave a nice shave, but it took to long , and I did not enjoy shaving with it

probably due to my nervousness! I would like some recommendations on a third blade to go along with the ASTRA SP and PERSONNA REDS. I have read some good reviews on the GILLETTE (blacks, yellows, greens - which one would be good for me?).Recommend any blade that is similar to the two that I like would be appreciated. But please - NO FEATHERS!

I like the Astra's but I don't care for the Reds. Everyone's face is different amazingly and after another year of technique improvement you'll find you can safely shave with any blade.
A lot of people like this Gillette Silver Blues lately and I concur. A lot of people like the Personna Lab blades and since you like the Reds maybe you will too however I don't much care for them. See a pattern? ;-)

Gillette 7 o'clock (Black box). As sharp a blade as I've used, but really smooth. As smooth as the Reds, another one of my favorite blades. Polsilver Super Iridiums are another favorite, as well as Personna Med Preps. Just a couple I like, but there are plenty of good blades to try.

I concur with the recommendation for Gillette 7 O'Clock Black. I too like the Astras for there smooth and forgiving shave. The Gillettes are just as smooth but sharper. It is a great compromise between smooth and sharp.

Personally, when I shaved with a DE, my favorite Blades were; Personna Medicals, Astra SP and Rapira Blades in the Pink/Blue/Black Box. The Rapira is very sharp and smooth, being inexpensive was an added bonus, 100 @ $6.25; http://shop.bestshave.net/100-rapira-double-edge-razor-blades-p-110.html

I'd recommend trying a tube of Arko SC, the forgotten Arko since the stick gets all the attention.

Add, I just saw your other Thread; The Alum Blocks are inexpensive as well and work just as good as the expensive brands.

Gillette 7 O'clock Russian green is smooth and similar to Astra SP to me. Super Irridium and Gillette Blacks are also my favourite blades.

I love the Rapira Ladas myself and I get 4 shaves on average with them and oddly enough the Vidyut Super-Max Platinums are nice to my face as well

The ASTRA SP and the PERSONNA REDS.

These are my 2 favorite blades for my SuperSpeed. Merkur blades are my #3, but only used in my Merkur 34G. The yellows, blacks and dark blues are a little too aggressive for me. I haven't tried the greens.

I basically have followed the same path as yourself, only about a month shorter, trying different blade/razor combinations and having good and not so good shaves. Last night I had the worst shave yet. So downstairs I went, straight to the computer and ordered 100 Gillette Silver Blues. They have been excellent for me in every razor I've tried them in. Very sharp, no pulling and very smooth, forgiving of newbie technique mistakes. That's been my experience anyway, YMMV.

I'm another fan of teh Gillette Silver Blues. Polsilver Super Iridiums are just as nice and the 7 o'clock blacks are nice, too.

I'm surprised that no one has yet mentioned the Personna Labs/Meds. Like you, I'm a fan of both Personna Red IP and Astra SP's, and I liked the Personna Lab blade that I tried very much--sharp, yes, but SMOOTH too...

You need to find a blade that works with your razor and your face. I love Med Preps in my Mergress, but they are terrible in my Slim. 7 O'Clock Blacks are nice - sharp and very smooth.

You'd probably be best served with making your own sample collection with a handful of boxes of 5 blades. They're cheap enough and you won't really know until you pare down a list and try them.

Agreed. Look up "YMMV" in the dictionary and there is a picture of DE blades there.

Just curious - why no Feathers ? Have you tried them ?
No I have not, after reading how they are the sharpess blade on earth and the neighboring planets, I fear lopping my head off with one wrong move.
