Look What Walked Through the Door

An incredibly nice thing was done for me recently and, even though I'm new here, I want to share it with my B&B brethren. I run a couple of community newspapers here in Texas and I recently wrote a column about DE shaving and now having a reason to go "antiquing" with the significant other. In truth, it was a throw-away column as I was having writer's block, but the wife insisted I should write it so I ran with it. The response has been incredible. I've had people stop me on the street to talk about collecting razors - one of whom had my column cut out and stuffed in their coat pocket - and I've had people come through the office door to share their razors with me. One old gent just stumbled on his father's razor - a gold Gillette Valet Auto Strop razor - and he came in with it wrapped inside my cut-out column. The icing on the cake, however, came when an older woman came in to show me her brother's travel kit bought new for him in the mid-50s. The kit is absolutely pristine - a zippered brown leather suit brush with a Gillette Tech, a two-pack of Blue blades still in the box, an unopened tooth brush, tube of Pepsodent, tube of Williams brushless shave cream, a nail file and clear comb. She says that her brother got it as a gift and never used it. Looking at the condition, I believe her. The kicker was when she said she read my column and knew I had to have it for my collection and that it was going to a good home. With that she told me to enjoy and turned around and left the office. Needless to say, I followed her advice. Hope you guys like it.

Found one on Craigslist last week. No toothpaste or Shavecream, but also not quite as good condition as it has a wearmark on the top. Congratulations on finding a perfect looking set.

Thanks for sharing this.

Is your article online? If so could you post a link to it? If not would you mind scanning it to an image and posting the image so we could see it as it appears in the paper and read it?

Thanks, Guys. We just did a massive server switch-over for all of our 26 papers this weekend so I'm not sure if it's still up but I'll see what I can do.

Very nice travel set, i to would enjoy reading your article. I think folks gravitate to stories like yours is it brings back some memories of either themselves, or some loved one.

Very nice, have a good time with it. That proves what an impact our words can have written or verbal. Thanks for sharing.

That's awesome. Goes to show that you never know how what you do is going to affect people. Hope that sentence makes sense.

My first reaction on seeing that, even before I read your post, was "Ooo. I want!"
Now, I don't travel, but I feel a need to have one of those. Much like MyCarver's Edg-ucator though, I have a feel it will not work out well for me. Glad to see your article hit it off with so many people, though. It really seemed to click from the sound of it, very impressive. Talk about spreading the AD far and wide, nice work. I also can't wait to read this article.
