An incredibly nice thing was done for me recently and, even though I'm new here, I want to share it with my B&B brethren. I run a couple of community newspapers here in Texas and I recently wrote a column about DE shaving and now having a reason to go "antiquing" with the significant other. In truth, it was a throw-away column as I was having writer's block, but the wife insisted I should write it so I ran with it. The response has been incredible. I've had people stop me on the street to talk about collecting razors - one of whom had my column cut out and stuffed in their coat pocket - and I've had people come through the office door to share their razors with me. One old gent just stumbled on his father's razor - a gold Gillette Valet Auto Strop razor - and he came in with it wrapped inside my cut-out column. The icing on the cake, however, came when an older woman came in to show me her brother's travel kit bought new for him in the mid-50s. The kit is absolutely pristine - a zippered brown leather suit brush with a Gillette Tech, a two-pack of Blue blades still in the box, an unopened tooth brush, tube of Pepsodent, tube of Williams brushless shave cream, a nail file and clear comb. She says that her brother got it as a gift and never used it. Looking at the condition, I believe her. The kicker was when she said she read my column and knew I had to have it for my collection and that it was going to a good home. With that she told me to enjoy and turned around and left the office. Needless to say, I followed her advice. Hope you guys like it.
