Long term storage via Mylar bags

I want to portion out some of my tobacco for long term storage, but I am not too enthusiastic about mason jars. They take up space, are heavy, breakable and I would prefer to remove as much air as possible. I have a Foodsaver vacuum, which gets me part off the way there, but I think that it might be best used with Mylar bags.

I can use the Foodsaver to vacuum seal the bags, which offer better protection than the std Foodsaver bag. I found some 7 mil thick qrt sized bags on Amazon, which can be heat sealed and have a zip opening for later unsealing. There were also some that had the oxygen remover built into the side of the bag, for a slight up charge.

Does anyone here use Mylar for long term storage?

I did find a link once, I think it was on the P&C site, or linked off of there, talking about aging and storing tobacco, and it mentioned that mylar was a suitable way to do it... Once I get a chance I'll try to find the article and link it for you.

A couple things to consider

I know the mylar bags Esoterica uses for their 8oz packaging is susceptible to developing pinholes at the creases. If these bags are thicker than that it may work but I'd check them occasionally.

Vacuum sealing, where all the access air is removed is not the best for aging because there needs to be some air available for the microbes that are responsible for the changes in aged tobacco. On another forum a guy had said that tobacco he had vacuum sealed with a Food Saver was just as fresh as when he had sealed it two years before.
