Loft for TGN Finest

Currently I'm turning a handle on the lathe and once it's done I will be putting a 22mm TGN finest knot into it. This is the first brush I've ever made so I was wondering what loft most people like to set this knot at. I almost always face lather and usually use soaps if that helps.

^^This is what I've noticed as well. When I did my lucite restore, I put in a 20mm TGN Finest extra-stuffed and set the loft at 50mm. I'm also a soaper and that brush is perfect for face lathering or bowl lathering.

If you already have the knot I would suggest THIS. If you dont I would set it deep enough to at least try the higher 40's.

48 to 50mm seems to be the majority of what ive seen posted.

I have about 10 TGN finest knots in my rotation, 3 of them being 22mm, and I almost exclusively face lather. I set the knots anywhere from 47 to 50mm. It is a great knot at a wonderful price. I would avoid going higher than 50mm unless you want something with a little less backbone.

Is it bulb or fan? Fan is going to be much softer, IMHO 47-48 is perfect for fan shaped 2-band from tgn. Never used the bulb 2-band, I am not a backbone nazi. I like a combination of softness and backbone.

Setting the knot at 48-50mm for your first restore is what I would suggest. Firstly, that is an excellent height for the 22mm TGN Finest two band, which has great backbone and will allow you good face lathering capabilities, but still will work awesomely for that occasional bowl lathering if the mood strikes you. Secondly, this will help you in future restores by providing feedback in deciding where you want your next knot loft, either shorter or longer. Hope this helps.

I have a 22mm TGN Finest on the way as well. Thanks for the input, guys. Looks like 48-50 will do it.

I'm sure you have already set your knot but I have done about 25 of these TGN finest fans and 48mm seems to be a great loft for the 22mm knot...

Post some pics of your brush!!!:001_cool:
