L'Occitane Cade Soap

Hi All,

I stopped by the L'Occitane boutique in Shrewsbury today and picked up the Cade shaving soap and stainless steel bowl (I'll be honest, I did it more for the bowl than anything else, as I am taking a trip to London in a few weeks time and am planning a stop by Jermyn Street to pick up some soap from Harris or maybe, dare I say it, Floris). The first thing that struck me was how soft the soap was; I could put a large dent in with my nail. This is not easy with my current soap -TOBS Jermyn Street. However I got home and, since I try to shave in the morning rather than evening, lathered it up on my hand. This soap is a beauty! The lather is almost as profuse as with my creams! This is clearly a top quality soap. I lathered it with my Kent BLK4, a truly remarkable brush that, sadly, appears to be shedding a few bristles of late. I think the volume of well hydrated, creamy lather was partly down to the softness of the soap and the softness of my brush working together - the lather from the harder TOBS soap is not so profuse, but still great. The scent is subtle, and will not overpower an aftershave or EDT; the scent seems to exist only to make the shaving experience even more pleasurable.

As a bonus, I now have a top quality aluminium container into which I can put any 100g soap!

I will report back after my shave tomorrow morning!

The flying saucer-like bowl is very cool. The soap is in my top ten easily.

Incidently, I find the current Floris shave soap to be very nice. Lathers very easily and is very stable lather from my experience.... and the scents are outstanding (I have a puck of all three, Elite, JF and No. 89). It only seems to be lacking in the cushion/slickness categories for me..... I wouldn't call it bad cushion or slickness, but just not as good as say Tabac, MWF or MdC. It's insanely overpriced stuff though..... I got mine during the Floris 50% off sale last winter so that is how I justified purchasing it. I would not pay full price for it. Another great aspect to it is the hand turned wooden bowl. Simplicity as its best.

The soap is great but I have a problem with the bowl. The water seeped under the soap and amassed there. The result was a slobbery, slimy mass. Very disgusting!

You will enjoy this soap. Great lather that always leaves my face feeling great. I always have a backup of Cade on hand.

I moved and literally got rid of 20-30 soaps and creams. And I still have a good sized box full. And with all of those wonderful choices, I've been through 3 cakes of Cade. Great stuff!

I too bought the bowl because it's so cool. I later bought the soap and is now one of my favorite soap, it's so easy to lather and has a great mild scent.

After reading this post last night I broke out the Cade this morning. Solid performer and I just cant get enough of the scent!

Yes, Cade is excellent. Some folks have claimed that it dries their face, but I've found that it's just very thirsty: give it plenty of water, and it provides a rich, dense, stable, and moisturizing lather.

The bowl is a little out of my price range, but the pucks themselves are priced very competitively with other high-quality soaps. Have only done a couple test lathers with mine, but from the looks of the lather and the smell, it should have a higher priority in my den.
