I used to smear it onto my face, but nowadays I squeeze a small amount straight onto the brush.
You may note that I wrote ‘onto’, as the cream should go into into the top ⅓ of the brush.
Just deep enough not to fall off, just high enough to come in to contact with the skin and not get burried in the brush roots.
The amount depends on the cream. Musgo Real, Lavanda and Musgo need little more than a almond-sized amount, other creams may need more, but never more than 1”.
