Liushen Florida Water

Has any one tried this stuff? Thoughts?

It bills itself as a "modernized" (something like that) Chinese manufactured "Florida Water." Smells nothing like Murray & Lanman Florida Water as far as I can tell, unless there is something underneath all the menthol. Maybe the reference to "Florida Water" here is really intended to be a substitute with the same meaning for "cologne water."

Are all Chinese Florida Waters like this? According to the web, China has a long tradition of making Florida Waters.

I like it so far. Fairly heavy on the menthol, but not completely out of control. Soothing. Some burn, which I like. There seems to be other fragrances in there, too. Nothing seems to linger at all. Nice looking and performing bottle. $5 for 195 ml, as I recall. A long term supply I would say.

I have come to be a bit fan of the Murray & Lanman Florida Water fragrance, although it seems to have relatively little staying power. This is a different animal altogether. This seems like pure AS. Not intended to conflict with other scents.

I came across this a couple of weeks ago - and in the same store I found a bottle of Butterfly Florida Water (also from China).

I agree that the Liushen is a different animal from M&L - stronger, not flowery... the Butterfly FW is quite similar to the M&L. See this:

Do you know that Liushen advertises this stuff as a mosquito repellent?

I have a bottle I haven't got around to opening yet. I'll give it a whirl here soon.

Thanks. I do not know how I missed the Chinese Florida Water thread.

I did not see anything but the Liushen where I was, and I was looking hard. I am sure the Butterfly version will show up eventually in my travels. I think I saw a reference to a Chinese FW version with two girls on the label, too.

It is completely credible to me that the Liushen would effectively repel mosquitos. Liushen has plenty of menthol. I have never tried Osage, but I want to not sure it is in that league. I am liking the Liushen more and more. Very refreshing. I do not think it has any staying power at all, which is fine for AS purposes. So far, I think one could use any fragrance after it. Nothing left over to clash.

The local Chinese market carries Liushen Florida Water, right next to the Butterfly brand. I bought the Butterfly type last summer, don't use it that much, very powdery and flowery. Not very masculine. So today I took a whiff of the Liushen brand and I have to say I thought it smells just like Clubman. Since I already have Clubman, I didn't feel the need to pick it up.. but I was kind of surprised by the scent. Maybe for my collection I'll pick it up someday, but for now the Clubman will suffice on that one day a month I like to wear it..

An old thread! I have bought and used much more stuff in the meantime.

The Butterfly brand of FW is horrible--powdery, flowery, and weak. I have no idea why it is called FW. It seems nothing like M&L FW.

For that matter, neither does Liushen. Although I find Liushen to be powerfully mentholated. Perhaps as much as Osage is. So Lishen not very much like Clubman to me. I really like Lishen!

I wonder if Chinese Florida Water has some ritual purpose--much like it does in the US? I found a small selection at a big Asian supermarket near my house. It was in the same shelf with incense and spirit money.

I've only tried Murray & Lanman Florida Water, and found it interesting, with a bit of burn that may have been menthol, although I don't recall a menthol smell at all. Interesting for it's history, but not one I wanted to wear.
