My DE razors, from first purchased to most recent
1. Mid 1960s Schick Krona with silver TTO knob
2. Micro Touch one (a rebranded Weishi, I believe)
3. Gillette Super Speed, no date code.
4. A Hashir 3 piece razor (not used due to a bent corner on the bottom plate.
5. Zeva 3 piece razor, brass plating over stainless steel
6. Gillette Tech, no date code. Brass handle and bottom plate. Copper top plate
Time for a visual update after some finetuning of the vintage stash over the last few months, where boring home office work and internet access provided a healthy platform for acquiring new stuff. The finetuning meant a.o. that the gorgeous Toggle is gone, a wonderful Kirby came and went, and the unique find of the Rotbart ‘Pineapple’ OT entered.
But the core remains as I suspect it will forever. Minimalism for me has to be “stay at 60”! Which means that I still have the ambition of “one in-one out”.
A few razors are with Captain Murphy and Chris Evatt for refurbishment and a couple are inbound including the L’Essor differential comb, but apart from these I took 3 new pics to show (a) the rare birds, (b) the obsession, and (c) the rest.
Razorock Mamba 53
Razorock Mamba 70
Razorock GC 68
Razorock GC 84
Ikon SB
IKon OSS
Wilkinson classic plastic
EJ 89(use by my dad)
Fatip piccolo
Fatip gentile
Fatip picolo/gentile black gold(buy only for color)
Blackland Dart- my favorite and number one (second is IKon SB, third is GC 84, number four Gentile).
My current rotation is about 25split between two locations. I have really come to like the precision of modern razors - Wolfman, Timeless, Paradigm and the like. Then I go back to an old Gillette,Leresche or Apollo and realize how nice they are. Best to have a variety!
Gah! You're gonna make me think! Ok. Coffee.....and.....wait for it.....Think!
These are what I have right now. There were some others along the way which I passed on to others. I won't try and recall all of those. Things like a Red Tip and a Blue Tip, which I do recall. But, other ones I know I have forgotten all about.
Pre war Tech (what Dad handed me in 1976)
1948 Super Speed (what Mom gave Dad for their first Christmas in 1948)
Old Type Thin Cap (what Grandma handed me after Grandpa passed away)
New Long Comb
New Short Comb
Post War Tech (what I got after Dad passed away, I use it on May 6th each year - his Birthday)
Fasan DoubleSlant
Schick Type C open comb repeater (Injector where the blades are in the handle)
- My ground travel razor
New Improved
1934 Aristocrat (open comb)
- Those two form a 7-day OC set for Open Comb October. I bought those just for that reason a few years ago.
Above The Tie S2 Slant (Jan, 2020)
- I have been alternating between the S2 and the Fasan for the past month.
There is an Evans ladies travel razor which I wound up finding when my Mom passed away. It is a tiny, tiny DE and it won't begin to cut my whiskers. Cary Grant used one in North by Northwest. Talk about Hollywood License!
There are a couple straight razors which Dad had but never used. I never have used them, either. So, I'll mention them but I have no details regarding them. They were probably his dad's but my Dad never said anything about them.
Merkur 34C
Edwin jagger DE89 (rubber handle)
Fatip grande
And now I'm looking for a nice adjustable, currently I'm leaning towards the Merkur progress and the viking blade adjustable all other suggestions are mostly welcome ✌
