linseed oil stain

Well, the other day I made a stupid mistake. I was oiling the fingerboards on my guitars with linseed oil. Afterwards, I was going to oil my straight. You can guess where this is going. Today I looked at my razor and realise that it's gunky- that's when I realized I accidentally used linseed oil on it! The oil had started to dry in tiny stream along the blade. So, I wash it off with some warm soapy water, but now there is a bit of cloudy staining on the blade. It's mostly on one side, but sort of runs along the razor, right close to, and on, the bevel. I started polishing it up with some nevr-dul, it seemed to help, but not a whole lot. I'm going to try to find some maas tomorrow, but I don't know if we get that here in Canada. So, what's the next step, extremely high grit sandpaper, then once the staining is out use polish? Anyone hear of this happening with linseed oil? I feel like such a fool :frown:. Thanks.

How did this turn out for you olps? It's been a few days and I know before in the barbershop chat you said you were looking for metal polishes to remedy the problem. I'd love to know which one fixed it in case I ever make the same (or a similar) mistake.

Well, I picked up some CLR Metal Clear. So far it seems to work, it's just slow going:rolleyes:. I just need to set aside an hour or two and really work on it. It's tempting just to pick up a dremel as it seems so many use them for such purposes (or even try to rig up some sort of small buffing wheel for the drill press...). I should consider myself lucky, there's no staining on any of the gold, so I can just mask it and not worry about polishing it off. Seems to be turning into my first 'restore'...

I would not have thought of the CLR metal clear. I guess you really were having trouble finding a cleaner!

How does the CLR metal clear compare with other polishes like maas? Yea, I don't know why it's hard to find metal polish here. There were only a few different ones, and the CLR looked to be the best- it does seem to work anyways.
