Found this a day after I finally.....and I mean finally got my first japanese straight shave ready. Very hard to hold in my big hands, but it shaved pretty good. This site should help. There has always been a lot of confusion on which side to hone and what ratio for either side (at least for me!). This site helps...with pictures.

Thank you! I wish they would say something about the percentage of time you should hone side A vs. side B.

BTW I hone mine like I hone Western style razors: gives me great results.

Nice tutorial.

To expound on honing the two sides, hone in a 3:2 or 5:3 ratio, concave to convex. That preserves the slight hollow shape of the concave side. If you don't do this ratio, you'll still get great shaves but you'll lose the original shape of the razor.
