Life of a Blade

Hey,

This may seem like an odd question but here it goes:-
Does blade blade wear and tear depends on razor ?
I am almost going to complete my 10th shave from a blade tomorrow with Merkur 1904 OC.
How is this possible ? Does the blade wear and tear depends on razor aggressiveness ?

It will vary with some razors and the angle used to shave. The 2011 R41 is notorious for halving the life of blades if used at a certain angle.

I don't know how much it varies with razor. I guess I can see that in extreme examples it could matter, but I doubt it matters in most cases.

As to how many shaves you get from a brand or how many from an individual specimen, it depends. If you get an unusual number of shaves from an individual blade, well, all things are variable and in the long run it is going to happen that you find an individual blade with an edge that is harder and tougher than a few standard deviations from the mean and the edge holds up through more uses compared to the others of the same brand and model.

I'm using that same blade and today's shave was the last. I got 4 out of it. So it depends on your beard like others have said. My vintage Personna 74s can do an easy 30 shaves on a single blade.

I push mine until performance falls off. Astra SP's = 4 shaves. Super Iridium = 3. A lot of trial and error.

+1 on the this. If you get it right to get BBS without a bloodbath, someone will have to pay for it. With the R41 it's the blade...
