What's new

Let me present: The FAtip Overlord!

I spent some time experimenting with different razor parts and came up with this. A Lord top-plate, a FAtip comb-plate and the heavy handle from a cheap chinese razor. :biggrin1:
I tried it out this evening and it gave me a very decent, smooth and close shave. I thought the ordanary FAtip was to agressive and this one if far milder. The Lord plate is wider and theres less visible blade with this combo. $FatipOverlord1.jpg$FatipOverlord2.jpgStill very effective!

Thank you!

Its one of this. Razor is kind of crap. Plastic parts and stuff and not that nice and comfortable then it comes to shaving. I bought it for the box mostly and of curiosity. But the handle is quite nice and heavy and made of some metal. Maybe some bronze alloy.

Yes this experiment got quite good actually and i think i try it out some more. Btw Shark blade just now and its kind of mild. Will try with something sharper later.

I had used the head top from a Merkur 1904 #41 on my Fatip and the blade exposure was reduces about like yours with the Lord head. Using a head that diminishes the amount of blade exposure does take the aggressiveness out of the Fatip. Enjoy your unique razor.

I think it was you experiment i red about earlier, that gave me a idea to make my own. Since Lord L6 is supposed to be a copy of Merkur it dont suprise me if they are similar then it comes to blade exposure.

Johan: For me the Fatip felt much 'smoother' with the Merkur top than with the Fatip 'lid'. Good to hear that you're enjoying your custom razor. It looks good.

The Merkur top plate also tames a Fatip considerably. I got one when it was a "Muhle R89" and when I took it out of the box and loaded it, with that blade sticking out the way it does, my reaction was "What the @#&*? The cap is too narrow." So I tried the cap from my Merkur 23C and it made more sense. Still aggressive but less likely to bite with the blade clamped down fully.

Yeah it's a YMMV thing. Even with the blade clamped all the way down with a wider head cap the Fatip is aggressive as anything this side of an R41. It just makes it so you aren't playing Russian Roulette with getting nicked. It puts the "safety" back in safety razor when the blade isn't such a wild card.

Thank you fellow shavers! Took the weight measurements today and it showed 80 gr!
@Kevan. Completly agree! Even with this new setup its still one of my closest shaving razors. The heavy weight in combination with the supreme design of a open comb i gues?!

Edit: This morning shave was incredible close. Still smooth. So i think i got something here.

I have just now done the same thing, do you think the shave is close to the Cadet TP-27 and Razorock Jaws? Just wondering.
