What's new

Let me know how I did with this Tech

Hey guys, so I just picked up my first DE razor in person (by that I mean not from one of the fellows here on B&B) and I'd like to know how I did.

I swung by the local antique store on by lunch break today and was surprised to find they had a veritable treasure trove of SE's, DE's, straights, and some cool old cups and brushes. Being the newbie I am, I decided to stick with something more well known, and picked this guy up. Yes, the box is pretty rough, but at least its there... right? And as far as the razor goes, it looks to me like its hardly been used. I paid $18 for it, and part of me doesn't really care whether I did THAT well because I was so excited by it, but I'd like to know... what do you guys think?

Millions of men shaved with the Tech back in the day. With a sharp blade many speak highly of the combo. Congrats.
As for the price, how many things can you buy for $18 these days, than will out last you.....again Congrats.

theres one just like that at one of my local antique stores- but with no box and a lot of bubbling on the top of the head...not sure if I want it because of the bubbling, but its only $5.50! decisions decisions

I say pretty good, at the local antique shop they have a tech in a box (both box and razor look new) for $80. No way i'm buying that. it's been there for a while.

Great buy if you ask me! I have a travel size tech and it gives me a great shave, probably one of my better shaves actually. This puppy should do you well.

I think you did great. That's right on par for price for pristine techs (some come cheaper on b/s/t but I think that is cause members pass on their savings as well). And the best part is you found it. Great score. Now do some research and go back to that store armed with knowledge of what's there!!!!

I've not see a tech with "bubbling on the top of the head" - I would certainly pass on that even if a buck. Some stuff is just meant to be tossed into the recycling bin.

Nice razor! You may or may not have found it cheaper online, but half the fun is finding something in the wild for less than the cost of a nice meal.

Looks great to me. I just grabbed my first Tech (a '66 Ball End) and gave it its first shot today. Loaded it up with a new Feather, lathered some TOBS Coconut, and got to work. Not only did it give me a truly irritation-free three pass BBS, but it was easily the smoothest shaver I've ever encountered. Like completely effortless. Made my DE89BA11 and my 34C look like belt sanders. So yeah, nice find!

Nice! Sounds like it might need to be your new go-to :)
