Lefty here.can I play too?

I'm a lefty. Can I use a fountain pen too? Does the ink dry fast like a gel pen or will it smear all over the place when I write?

I was gonna pick up a Lamy Safari on amazon for my first starter fountain pen.

I am a lefty as well and I can tell you that drying time to not smear varies depending on the ink, nib and paper combination. If you are scared or can't adjust your writing style, you can always buy inks that specifically state they are "fast-drying". I find that I don't drag my hand through the wet ink at all if I make a conscious effort to slow down and enjoy my writing. You can also search on Google for tips to hook your hand or write at an angle to prevent this. Don't be afraid! Also, a Lamy Safari is a great starter pen, you should get it!

I'm a lefty and I only have a little trouble with smearing, for me it's not any different than the trouble I had with any other pen. I don't drag my hand though, I write pick it up and write again when I have to reach.

Lefty here too, the only time I have issues is when I an using a stub nib. Jump in the water is fine.

Not a problem - in addition to avoiding inks that are know to have long dry times, most of my pens are fines or mediums, which don't lay down an overly wet line.

Also, avoid glossier papers, as ink typically takes longer to dry on these types of papers.

My dad's a lefty, and he loves the Waterman Laureat (M nib) I bought him a few years ago. It lays down a pretty wet line, too. Go for it!
