"Le Maurice" Pass around

Another great shave with the 1.0 Ti head! It is very smooth and gives a really comfortable shave. I am already trusting it enough to start with XTG in places, which says a lot, I don't do that with many razors and very rarely so early on in getting use to them. I wish more razors had such rigid clamping relatively near the blade edge.

This is a great razor, I hope it takes off for @Atelier DURDAN

This morning I used the 1.2mm gap Le Maurice and I was thrilled to get an even better shave than the great ones I was getting with the 1.0. Since I am finding that this razors gives me the best results at a shallow-ish angle, I am surprised the 1.2 did better, because if the safety bar isn't coming into much play and the exposure is the same, I thought the results would be similar. It also could be that I am simply getting better and better with ol' Maurice.

Another terrific shave, this is a great razor! I need more tests, but having four shaves on the 1.0 and one on the 1.2, the 1.2mm gap is in the lead for me. I'll keep y'all posted, thanks for hanging out with me and Maurice!

Second and third shave with the 1.2mm Le Maurice were terrific! It is so smooth, I put it up there with the smoothest razors I have. It is also very effective, at the top of my den there too. This is an excellent razor!

The angle is easier to find and hold with the 1.2 vs the 1.0 for some reason. While this is a larger gap, it is very safe. I am already finding myself whipping it around my face.

I'll give the 1.2mm shave, then try the 1.4mm gap next, could that be even better?

I've had two shaves with the 1.4, one with less than a day's growth and today's with a full day's growth. My first impressions are I like the 1.2 better. The 1.4 is still smooth, like the 1.0 and 1.2. However, I think the 1.2 was smoother and gave a closer shave. With the 1.2 I was shaving neutral, leaning a bit shallow. That didn't seem to work as well with the 1.4, does it prefer to lean a bit steep?

For those of you who have used Le Maurice, how does this fit into your experience? I'm really glad I got to be a part of this passaround, thank you @Atelier DURDAN! Where else would one get to experiment with a range of gaps all while keeping the exposure constant?

I am removing myself from the list. I will be relocating soon and with all that stress I won't be able to test this appropriately or give the deserved feedback.

Update on my time with Le Maurice...

Third shave with the 1.4 and neutral to shallow is the best angle for me. I got a smooth shave with a really good result. I tried neutral-steep and that wasn't as good.

Then I went back to the 1.2 for two more shaves. The 1.2 is the sweet spot for me - better than the 1.0 and the 1.4. All of the shaves so far have been with a Gillette Wilkinson Sword and have been smooth and great. Yesterday was no different.

Today I used a Nacet blade in the 1.2mm Le Maurice. It was a step above, wow! I got an even closer shave. It might have been a hair less smooth because of the sharper blade, but the result was a step better. This is an excellent razor!

I'd really like to be included in this pass around if it isn't too late to sign up.

@purecro Hey thanks. I'm always curious to try new razors, but I think I'll pass on this. It's his AC razor that would seriously interest me. I'm spoiled for choices with luxury razors by Canadian and American makers and my quiver of DE is full. Now if he made a GEM holder that would get my attention.
Thanks again for your kind consideration.

It appears that a GEM razor is in development based on this post.

Le Maurice is unique in both its smoothness and efficiency, which puts it in the top tier of my den and I've used around 40 razors. The moderate exposure of 0.05mm gives it just a bit of bladefeel, which is great by me because I don't like a lot. The larger gaps are not scary at all, it is very smooth and safe. I can go right into XTG if I want, which I only do with razors I trust.

The closest comparison I can make is with the Game Changer 84, which is very smooth and effective for me. I'm going to use the GC 84p right after I finish my time with Maurice to make a comparison. From memory, the 84p may be just as smooth, but a whisker less efficient. Both have ~0.05mm exposure. I thought Le Maurice would be like the Sentinel, which also claims that exposure and a large gap, but the Sentinel is significantly less smooth and less efficient.

Le Maurice with the 1.0 and 1.2 gap baseplates remind me of the Tatara Masamune and Nodachi, respectively. The titanium Maurice cap and handle provide excellent balance and face feel, especially with the titanium 1.0 gap baseplate. (My Tataras are SS.)

If the price with the stand, all in titanium and delivered to the US, were $100 lower, I would have ordered one already. Even as it is, I’m tempted.

I'm packing up Le Maurice to send to @Elliot. I'm going to miss him, I really liked this razor! I think I may be adding a 1.2mm grooved to my den. :) I look forward to hearing more from you all.

Would it be ok to add me to the list after Wgg2017, I am in Pennsylvania?

I think you just add yourself like this. I also think the list might have been intended to end at 15. Is that right?

Are you in Downingtown? I used to live there.

I think 15 was just an arbitrary number that whoever started the list went up to. The OP doesn’t have a max number, just requirements for minimum posts, reviews, taking care of the box, and partaking in beverages with the OP if you find yourself in his part of France. 🍻

I have opened two offices in France (Bordeaux and Toulouse), it would not be out of the question for me to visit (and of course enjoy some wonderful wine). I have been to Europe almost 140 times.

I have slowed down but not stopped travel compared to my younger days.

That being said, I’m mostly in Italy and Germany for work.

I am going to pass on this and put my name off the list here.

Just so that all are aware of the movements -- my wife collected the mail today and said Le Maurice has arrived.
I have reviewed initial posts and know I am looking at two weeks. As I shave roughly 3x a week, I should be able to get 5-7 shaves in, which is great!
Thank you, @Atelier DURDAN for the opportunity and @spacemonkey42 for the packaging!

I'll report back soon. Timing is such that it may not get used till Saturday.
