What's new

Le grelot...wow!

I am fairly new to straights, but I just ordered a 3/4 Le Grelot from Martin at Rasurpur. First shave today...it was the best I have ever had. I am sure that some of this had to do with Martin's honing, but it was also a much heavier and more substantial razor than my previous go to: the Dovo Special. While the dovo is a great, the LeGrelot IMHO, is a much better razor.

Are there any other razor similar to the 3/4 le Grelot? How does the hart steel compare...they seem to be similar grinds.

There are those who claim the Dovo Bismark shaves better than the Grelots. I am not one of them. For a similar feel, I'd recommend looking for a vintage Sheffield razor.

I have a 3/4 Le Grelot from Martin at Rasurpur also.....Thanks Henry! It is a very nice blade. Something else to consider is the 7/8 Friodour. Not a 3/4 but shaves like a dream..

The 3/4 Le Grelot is also my favorite blade. I have two of them from Martin and I liked them so much that I chose that blade for my 7-day set that I got from Steve Dempster at Thiers-Issard-UK.

Friodurs are so cheap now because there are about a million that have recently popped up. You'd think with all the NOS Filly's out there people would stop paying through the nose for them, but they haven't.

BTW Palmeras are getting out of hand, pricewise, too.

Very true..
The cat is out of the bag. It is a nice 7/8 that could be had at a good price in the past

:yesnod: I can't believe the Filly prices continue to be nutty.

I have a 3/4 Le Grelot, and I love the shave too. For what it's worth, a large 7/8 Friodur is a very comparable razor, but you can also look for a large Gotta (7/8 or larger) or even one of the large Bartmanns or Les Croix that keep coming up at auction. Any one of them, in my view, will give a similar shave.
