Lavender Water

Wow, I have probably passed Cambridge Chemists about 200 times! 855 Lexington is right on my walk from the subway to the school where I was taking classes/teaching as of last spring. Looks like it is right next to the unmissable restaurant, Sel e Poivre.

um... do yourself a favor and go by CC and meet Scott... Let him know you're on B&B and bring lots of cash!:w00t:

Seriously.. Scott is a great guy

There are many types of lavender waters at many different price points. Atkinsons (if you can find it) and Agua Lavanda Puig are among the most affordable. Caldey Island gets rave reviews - I've not tried it yet, but one of these days I'm going to have to. Trumper and D.R. Harris put out fairly traditional, respectable lavenders, the former being accented by mint, the latter by musk. Czech & Speake's Oxford & Cambridge is renowned for its uniqueness and quality, although I am less enamored of it than are many. Creed's Royal Scottish Lavender is another top choice. My personal favorite lavender - and one of my favorite colognes, period - is Santa Maria Novella Imperial Lavender.

BTW, even though this thread is in the Aftershave forum, by asking about lavender "waters," you are actually asking about colognes.

Help me out with this... I thought "water" were a hybrid of the two (or an either or would be more accurate)... Is that wrong?

Water, aftershave, or whatever you want to call it. Would someone here be willing to hazard a comment or two about the Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender Water? It is a bit pricier than Atkinson's but I have never really seen a review of it here. At least my feeble attempts at a rudimentary search didn't yield much about it.

Regards, Todd

I can't speak to that, but I've been told by some people whose opinion I trust that the Atkinson's is about as good as it gets for lavender... Dunno about the others.

I've not tried it, but Chris Moss over at Shave My Face quite liked it, if I recall. You might try doing a search there, but be prepared to sift through a lot of posts. His comments dated back a good year or more, if memory serves.

Out of all the lavender colognes I have, the Atkinson is fair to middling per my own tastes. I recognize it is a 'good' lavender water in an objective sense, but subjectively speaking it doesn't really do much for me. I would absolutely take the SMN over it. Granted, for the price of a single bottle of SMN, I could get enough Atkinsons to bathe in, but my nose doesn't know that.
