lathering with shea butter creams

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but here goes.

Can you guys help me out with lathering techniques using Shea Butter Based cream? Pre de Provence and Institut Karite in particular. Yesterday I could not get a decent lather from the the Pre. Is it best to use lots of water, little water, or just tons of cream (it's expensive)? Soak the brush, or just dip the brush? I ended up having to use alot more than I'm used to with normal creams. Not ideal by any stretch. I have a variety of silvertip brushes and a couple pure badger brushes.

Thanks for the tips in advance!

Thank you that worked very well. I also warmed the tube in some hot water which seemed to loosen up the consistency to where it lathered in the palm easily. Kudos!

That Tabula Rasa looks mighty appealing... :ihih:

I have noticed recently that hand lathering produces the thickest lather b/c of the ability to whip extra fast.

I was a bit skeptical about Tabula Rasa prior to using it. Its more of a paste than a cream (hence the variant on the lathering process). The "hand method" allows you to get the paste worked into the brush, then away you go. I start in my hand, work it into the brush, then use my bowl.
