Been doing this now for a few years. I remember going into a barber supply shop which only had one Mekur razor and talking to the guy. He was like, its shaving, you been doing it for over 20 years, it is not that much different than a fusion. So I pulled the plug online with a open comb Mekur HD34c. Was different. The thing I remember most was the different sound it made. Was happy shaving.
Picked up a few other razors along the way. Biggest disappointment was the ED 89L. Loved the way it shaved, hated how it moved in my hand, too slippery.
The one thing I was never happy with was my lather. Saw a few videos and tried it. Looking back to last week, all I made before was just a soapy runny mess. Just a few days ago, was tired of using Orgins blade runner, pulled up youtube to try and find the lather videos with the fewest dislikes. Not as easy as you might think. Watched a few different ones. All had one thing in common that I wasn't doing. That was squeezing the life out of the brush. I bought a overpriced AoS silvertip brush a few years ago and thought lathering would be easy. So I busted it out and followed the steps. Had a very thin layer of AoS soap and some bigalow cream. Thin layer of the soap, some cream in the bowl, blah blah blah...... Few minutes later.... some nice looking whip cream.
Shaving was fun again. Went to westcoast shaving. Got some Trumpers coconut cream and some skin food. Just got them in today and busted out a quick shave.... not sure if I am digging the skin food yet but, had some great lather with coconut. Just today, went back to westcoast shaving for my R41 and 2 pucks of soap. Told the wife I am done for awhile especially after buying a tempurpedic today
So there is my shaving life. Make sure you are getting whip cream lather first. I just know I am going to shave drunk one day and just shove the brush into my mouth cause it looks so damn good
