What's new

Last weekend was great

There is a cabin/cottage on a very small pond that my wife and I rent a couple times a year. I have spent the weekend there 5 or 6 times. Last weekend was my first time going there since I started wetshaving, and we brought our first child, a girl that just turned 6 months. This cabin is about 100 years old, and owned by a family that rents it out once in a while. I think besides my family, there is only one other family that goes there. There is all kind of old, weird stuff in the house, and its always been fun to stumble upon crazy stuff.

During the first night of 4, I was in the bathroom/laundry room (surprising there is a laundry room in this small place), and I see a handwritten note above the washing machine. The note read something like "Use half amount of detergent needed, water is extremely soft).

I never thought about soft or hard water until I came here and started wetshaving, because I had read about how different water affects soaps differently, or something similar. Immediately, I felt a twitch in my brain, and thought there must be some shaving stuff here. I turn around and open the medicine cabinet, and I see this-

Wow, I could only laugh, as this thing has sat here for years, and if I ever saw it before, it didn't strike me as an object of interest.

Now, as small as this cabin is, it actually has 2 bathrooms. I laugh again, and walk to the second bathroom, open the medicine cabinet, and this is what I see-

amazing.

These razors were in near mint condition but they were obviously forgot about, like most of the things in this antique shop of a cabin. Also, in the medicine cabinets, there were bic disposables, and some old cartridge razors. I also saw a bottle of lectric shave, or whatever the pre shave splash for electric razors is called. It was like seeing the shaving evolution of an older gentleman, whom I've only spoken with his grandchildren and his son.

I get on the phone and call the son, the current owner of the cabin and its belongings and I tell him the story. I then ask if I could possibly purchase the razors from him. He told me to just take them, no one uses them, and he refused to take any money for them!

I believe I have a Black Beauty here, labeled P1 for a date code. I think that is 1970? But I have also read that the gold black beauty (or super adjustable) only came out for christmas of 1969? Either way, I brought it home, cleaned and sterilized it, and this morning I had a damn fine shave.

Is the other is a black handled flare tip? This one is labeled P4

I cleaned that one as well, it is beautiful. Haven't shaved with it yet though.

Any info would be great! I have more pics if you guys want me to post them.

Thanks for your time

Wow those are nice. I haven't been able to find much around me. It seems as if antique people are yanking them all up at estate/garage sales, and for the most part seem to be way over-pricing them. I haven't seen any for less than $30 really.

Great story, great find and hopefully great shaves!!!

a nice find and a good story behind it. I hope when I get back to the US I can hit up some antique shops in my area - and hopefully find something!

The super adjustable is the gold xmas edition and is a rather rare razor (it is gold not nickel right?).

If you wanted to do something nice for the prior owner a VERY nice gift would not be out of the question. No need to mention how rare the razor is just get them something special as a thank you from you and your family to them

The other razor is a common black handle flair tip super speed.

Turtle,

Yes, the razor is gold. It is beautiful, and I have gotten some of my best shaves ever with it over the last week. I am definitely going to have a fine bottle of something to give to the fine gentleman that owns this property the next time I see him. Should be soon, I plan on staying there a few times this summer, and I usually get the keys from him.

The Black Handle Flare Tip is great, I have used it a couple of times. I really dig the black handles on these razors, and I am in love with the heft and the golden shine of the super adjustable "black beauty"

On another note, earlier tonight I finally decanted my precious VEG into a glass bottle. 6 months later, this shaving stuff is getting out of control. My wife has been looking at me like I am insane :punk:

I love it all, thank you Badger and Blade!!!
