I have a small Chu Nagura I plan to use in an Asagi Ozuku.
Should I lap the Nagura first ?

I would just to smooth it out a bit. I’d also knock those corners off a bit to keep anything nasty from breaking loose.

I would also "lap" one side and I also would round the edges as well as REALLY rounding one edge. The larger the surface contact of a Nagura the more "sticking" will occur so if I use a Nagura I use the softened corner for less friction. A generously rounded corner works great for generating a slurry with any sticking whatsoever.

Lap the saw marks off. seal it on 5 sides, smooth the side you want to slurry with and put a curve into the working surface.
