La Toja splash vs Hâttric Classic

Many moons ago, when I went through a full set of Superlather samples, my wife and I crowned Hâttric Classic as the champion in the scent category. While I waited for the Hâttric, I picked up a bottle of the La Toja After Shave Locion from The Vintage Scent. I found myself using it a lot.

I finally got my hands on a bottle of Hâttric Classic a few months ago, and also began using it fairly regularly. It dawned on me a couple of weeks ago why I liked the La Toja so much--it smells similar to the Hâttric. Strikingly similar. I even had my wife smell both, and she said that if there were a difference in scent, it is ever so slight.

The only difference I can determine is that La Toja's scent tends to stick around a bit longer than the Hâttric. Can anyone else back me up on their similarity? What say you gents?

I have them both on the back of my hands now and they are strikingly similar, very close.
I think the Hâttric has more menthol/camphor and is a touch "greener",
it is colder on my skin.

Nice observation.:thumbup1:

interesting!

I can see the similarity, but both were different for me.

the Hattic has a pretty harsh alcohol bite and it's fragrance is more modern in my opinion.

the La Toja has better skin qualities for my face and the fragrance has a spice note to it that i can detect, which IMHO gives the scent more of an old time feel.

Hattric and La Toja are both made by the same company: Henkel-Schwarzkopf
I read that after H-S bought La Toja they moved production to Poland from Spain. I wouldn't be surprised if the they streamlined production and now use the same fragrance in the 2 splashes, or even the two splashes are the same just different bottles.

And yes, they do smell the same to me too. I tried the La Toja balm and my immediate thought was "this smells like Hattric".

I should have noticed this earlier--both bottles I have are labeled as such.

Are there any long time users of La Toja out there that can comment on whether the scent has changed?

Great thread - thanks for posting your observations.

I skipped ordering the Hattric a/s decant when I ordered superlather decants a few months ago but I did try La Toja which I wasn't too impressed with scent wise.

All this time I have regretted not getting Hattric but since it sounds similar to La Toja I believe I can live without trying it now. :thumbup1:
