Kuumba Made Sandalwood and Amber

The only sandalwood/amber frag i was able to find is Pleasures Sandalwood Amber Splash by Estee Lauder. Looks like it's marketed towards women and is fairly new so I couldn't really find anything on it.

A great sandalwood frag that is inexpensive and has great longevity is Ogallal's Bay RUm and Sandalwood. It is super high quality and will not break the bank at all. It can be found at http://www.ogallalabayrum.com/ The sandalwood definitely rounds out that bay rum scent and takes it to another realm of smelly goodness.

You may want to layer your fragrances if you're looking for an amber/sandalwood scent because it seems they're a pretty scarce animal.

Thanks for the information, and the recommendation. It seems I may be better served to reconsider the fragrance I am using since the big names in the industry only sell it to women! I never knew....

Thank you, Austin. I feel better knowing I am not alone (among men) in appreciating the fragrance.

I know art of shaving has essence of sandalwood. I tried a sample once, it lasted all day when I was in vegas. I just cant afford the $70 that it goes for.

I realize this is very late, but there's a perfume from Tauer Perfumes called L'air du Desert Marocain. It smells VERY similar to Kuumba Made's Amber Paste. It's a little more refined, but the similarity is definitely there. Just thought I'd comment!

You are most definitely not alone and yes, Santal Noble is excellent juice.

I'd also highly recommend White Lotus Aromatics' Amber Supreme Attar. It's described as a "blend of Amberi Attar, Ambrette Seed, Labdanum abs, Amber essential oil in sandalwood" oil.

This is an all-natural blend. It'll run you about $60 for 1/4 oz. but trust me, that 1/4 oz. will last forever. I haven't smelled it but I have a bunch of samples of their other attars. All of them are utterly first-rate; I would have absolutely no hesitation about ordering this one.

Thanks for the suggestions, gentlemen. I now own the MPG, and within the last week I ordered a sample of the Tauer so the timing is perfect. As for the attars, do you have any other recommendations, Evbo? I have been eyeing the White Lotus offerings for a while now...and we seem to have similar tastes in fragrances.

Thanks again! :thumbup1:

Oh man ... where do I begin. Let's see:

Agarwood/Oud Attar - Agarwood oil distilled into sandalwood oil.

I went to Bergdorf's recently & let the head fragrance guy try some of this (I had a sample with me). When he smelled it, his eyes opened wide. "Oh my god, this is beautiful!" he said. "What is it!?" He was mighty jaded, so I got a kick out of his response. :thumbup1:

Rose Supreme Attar - Rosa Damascena otto & absolute distilled into sandalwood oil. Classic & beautiful.

Orange Blossom Attar - Orange blossom absolute & neroli oil distilled into sandalwood oil. Citrusy, woody ... another winner.

In addition, you might want to get samples of anything that even remotely interests you. Their samples are very generous and, given the quality of the ingredients and their concentration, will likely last you a long time. Personally, I'd recommend:

Amberi Attar
Amberi Gulab Attar (same as above, but with Ruh Gulab - Rose Otto - added)
Jasmine Sambac Supreme Attar
Khus Supreme Attar

As wholesalers, they require a minimum order of $100. But you'll have no trouble hitting that. They also package their wares based on weight, not volume. This is why their samples are so plentiful. Based on my experience, I actually can't recommend these guys highly enough.

Have fun! :thumbup1:

hey fellas--

I don't know if the quality is up there with the attars, but Eden Botanicals offers some nice amber products, including a sandalwood/resin number that I've heard good things about.

I've only tried the basic amber oil, but do enjoy it if I "butch it up" just a bit, usually with a cedar/amyris blend or some vetiver.

For years I have used products that can be found at this website - http://kuumbamade.com/ZenCart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=20&show_main=1 - particularly the Amber and Sandalwood and the Amber Paste. I have absolutely no experience with colognes, and am wondering if anyone can offer a recommendation on something with a sandalwood and/or amber "base?"

Thanks in advance.:thumbup1:

Poonjaji, how have you been using these products? Believe I can get them at my Whole Foods, but how do you use them? Put them into some carrier oil? What about as an aftershave splash - alcohol or witchhazel? Thanks!

The Kuumba made is intriguing. Do you use it similar to an EdC and just use a small bit?

Anybody? Any of these oils/pastes mentioned, how does one use them?

How would one "use" these? They look to come in denatured alcohol or coconut oil bases. Do you just "dab" some of the product on?

Poonjaji taught me a lot about ouds, but they are out of my price-range. Using these ruhs or attars may be an experience I can afford a little better going the sample route. Any info is appreciated!

Sorry for the delay...been traveling for work.

Just to be clarify a bit, while I like the Kuumba products you will note that I posted this before I actually owned any of the quality fragrances often discussed on B&B. When I compare Santal Noble or Tom Ford Amber Absolute to the products they pale in comparison. However, at $8 it is not over the top to try a fragrance and - at least where I can buy them - Kuumba often has testers so you can sample the fragrances. I am guessing these products fall into the same category as Nandita Sandal, which is a product I have seen discussed on B&B.

I believe all of the products they offer, or at least the ones I have tried, are a fragrance oil or paste so they are fairly concentrated. Usually just a couple drops were sufficient for my use. In some ways they may be comparable to an Amouage attar (though in application only!).

If anyone has any further questions feel free to PM me. If you are looking for quality fragrance oils/attars, I might suggest you follow Evan's advice and check out White Lotus Aromatics. :001_smile

Would one use the attars similarly (looks like your post indicates as such)?
