Kriegar straight razors - opinions?

I see alot of the Kriegar razor blades for sale on ebay, prices start at $20. Are they decent or should I spend more money on a more expensive brand?

I could pass you a link for a 10-12$ Kreigar with pearl (like) scales hheeh with free shipping too :p

but as I read the metal is stainless steal and all that tried em had trouble putting an edge on it .. and even the box says Super KNIFE :)

They make very nice letter openers though. Some of the scales look very appealing but totally unfit as razor scales because they are way to heavy.

Just so you don't have to rent a hoist for your Petard, have you actually tried to hone and use one? This is asked in the spirit of scientific inquiry and on behalf of lumberjack commandos everywhere.

I have not tried a Kriegar myself. They may very well hone up every bit as good as a Krystal Edge or a Selective.

I bought one. There was a post (either here or on the other forum) about using them and I decided to try. They make good weights for the trash bag - it won't fly off and the raccoons tire of trying to carry it away. Definitely not a razor... not even a good knife.

Honing them is similar to the other psuedo razors - the blade is too thin to make a good angle for the edge and the metal, once forced into a sharp state, won't last more than a few swipes on my beard. The scales are over-weight and don't feel natural as a razor. There will always be someone who says they managed a good edge on a turd and now can use it to shave their beard at 20 paces - but for mere mortals, this razor is a piece of crap.

Then there are these other guys, crazy bastards actually, who will take aforementioned turd, and install some type of battery powered vibration device in there and maybe even a damn nightlight in there too (I told you they were crazy!), and then there you are a staring at this abomination, and not sure whether to spit or go blind. I mean, what the hell is that thing? Is it a massager? A flashlight? A damn Swiss army turd?

This place is a damn nuthouse!

(your post cracked me up, ladykate , honest, and straight to the point:thumbup1:)

I could have sworn I scrolled by a master list some where of straight razors. Does anyone know of a good buy these list of brands for all the straight razors that are decent pick ups.
