Knotting an old Gillette travel kit brush

I'm looking for the great wisdom of the BnB crowd here to restore a brush. I recently acquired a lovely travel kit from the BST here. Included with the set was a twist-up soap, container for lotion, styptic, and a twist up brush. I haven't yet measured the diameter of the brush bit, but would estimate it at about 10-12mm or so. I've never seen any knots for sale that size, and have looked for a couple of days now. (not constantly, obviously).. I even tried cutting the epoxy off of a cheap boar brush from Sally Beauty, just to see if I could figure out how to re-pack the bristles and epoxy my own knot together. THAT was a hairy disaster! Do any of you know how to make a knot from scratch, or how to reduce the diameter of a pre-made knot at the base? I've got several of the $2.50 horse hair brushes in transit from an order, and can certainly afford to cut one of those down without issue. Alternatively, I've got numerous friends with horses, and could pretty easily cut mane and tail hairs to make my own, if I can figure out a reasonable way to do that. (I was thinking about getting a tiny hose clamp to bundle up hair and pack it tightly enough to epoxy the base)

I seriously doubt that the brush will ever be used, as it's so small I'm not at all convinced that it would be useful, but if it's done well, I could be wrong. I'd REALLY prefer to be wrong and have a totally useful vintage kit to take with me on occasion and show off to family!
