Knot?

I am thinking about making my own handle for a custom made brush. Where would one obtain a quality knot to sink into it once you're happy with your handmade handle. I cant seem to find any direct information on the interwebs about which is reputable or quality. thanks guys.

TGN has excellent knots. I think it is without a doubt the most popular vendor, and for good reason. They have wonderful selection, and you can't really go wrong. My opinion of their Finest XH knots is through the roof, just a wonderful knot that I enjoy using tremendously. But really I like all the knots, with the exception of the "regular" silvertips - I would personally stay away from those.

I went with http://www.whippeddog.com/ for my first restoration and have bought several more since.. All are great. You don't have to spend hours deciding on a knot as you may do at TGN. WD's silvers will give you a good reference point when considering all of the options for a future purchase at TGN. A word of caution, Larry's knots are sold by the diameter of the plug, not the widest diameter of the knot. When you order from Larry specify the diameter of the handle socket that you intend to put it in. Once you have used a WD silver for a bit you will be able to choose from the vast TGN selection with greater confidence

I understand that you can get knots from Shavemac in Germany if you want to go the higher end route.

That said... I have 2 brushes with TGN knots and have been very happy with both.

If you are an ebayer, "AceShaving" has very reasonable prices. I have used over a dozen of their knots and been very happy with the performance.

As other mentioned, tgn 2-band finest xh would be an excellent choice. Great backbone and very soft tips. My preference is for the bulb shape.

Add me to those that recommend Whipped Dog. I have four of his knots and all are exceptional. I'm completely blown away by my newest one, a 30 mm. I'm traveling and left it home and I'm anxious to get back to it.
