Knot questions

Dear all,

I'm planning making a custom brush using a Silvertip 28 to 30 mm:thumbup:, and I'd like to ask you someting:

1.- In your opinion, which trader offers better knots "Golden Nib" or "Blankity Banks"? I'm interested only in performance, not a price/quality opinion.

2.- Do you know any other reliable knob sellers out there in the web? I've contacted Shavemac, but the price thy offer is stratosferic:thumbdown.

Thank you very much for your help in this matter.7

P.S. Thanks to whoever changed the hilarious title of this thread. I didn't know how to do so...

28-30mm! OOF that is going to be a monster. Can't wait to see it.

I think The Golden Nib might have more variety of knots. Blankity Blanks looks to have a nice selection. I have only used The Golden Nib. I haven't tried Blankity Blanks.

Have you tried maybe contacting Vulfix or Semogue and seeing if you could obtain a knot from them?

Sure it'll be big, I'm figuring out the stone to be used for the handle.

I'll contact Vulfix and Semogue.

Thanks.

just make sure if you go with a stone handle to stick with it. if you switch to a lighter brush you'll end up like dwight from the office with the nickel/phone prank...

I don't know about Blankity Blanks, but I bought some 28mm silvertip knots from the Golden Nib and thought they were pretty good - soft and luxurious like ST should be.

At first I was like, "Why does no one say what the actual name of the other company is? Is it considered taboo around here, so when we say Blankity-Blanks we all know who we're talking about without saying it?"

Then I looked it up. And realized that I'm the knob

Vulfix is not longer selling any knots - I had contacted them some time ago, and now again. They used to, but stopped doing this. I never used Blankity Blanks knots, so I cannot comment on them. All my knots come from TGN and a few from Shavemac. Both companies selling excellent products.

What a pity:sad: for Vulfix. I´ll have a look at TGN.

Blankity Blanks sells woodworking supplies. So named because a blank is a piece of wood that gets turned into a pen or a brush handle. He also supplies brush heads (called "knots") imported from China. I have heard nothing bad about him but The Golden Nib (TGN), also an importer of brush heads, does seem to have a lot of fans in this forum.

Any opinion in the discussion Eruropean vs. Chinese knots?

The price difference is now huge between knots made in Europe and made in China, but I don't know if there's a real quality difference or is it just a matter of manifacturing costs.

What do you guys think?

I have use knots from both co.s and B-Bs are IHO far better than TGNs.I have used just about every knot available from both co.s I would much rather deal with TGN for there great service and better selection. The badger knots from B-B are as good as my ShaveMac or better. They are as soft as a Kent.
B-B are more expensive but are a great value for a high end brush.
Cheers Rocket

I'm glad to find one experienced user who has used both kind of knots!
