Really addicting stuff,those huge copper kettles are certainly the best for authentic flavor,but what about a home recipe ? I have heard one secret is tha addition of vanilla flavoring to the oil....Anyone have a home recipe that comes close to the farmers markets / fairs kettle corn ?

I have one of those Whirly Pop things and it makes great kettle corn. No secret ingredients, just corn, oil, and sugar. I put the oil and corn in first and heat it just until it starts to sizzle a little bit, then add the sugar. This works for me to caramelize the sugar but not burn it.
Really hot water easily cleans the pan, too.
I love watching those guys at the fair do it, I'm sure part of the allure is that it looks pretty dangerous.

i recommend using coconut oil for a nice sweet flavour!

Whirly Pop pot @ $25 with 25 year warranty ! Can't beat that...wonder if their popcorn is GMO ? I think I will search around for organic popping corn...
Don't forget to add salt as well, part of why the Street Fair stuff is so addicting.
