Kent boar brushes: whats the deal?

So I saw that Kent sold very reasonably priced boar brushes and ordered a wooden handled vs70. When it arrived there was varnish runs all down the side of the handle, it was rough with stuff stuck to the varnish, the alu ring the top was dented and it was shedding loads of hair. I sent it back and swapped it for a vs60... this came yesterday it was a lot more nicely finished but the bristles are trimmed and very loosely packed compared to my omega and the handle feels really thin and hollow.. I know they are cheap but why would Kent sell such poorly made brushes? It would be better to make quality brushes and charge more for them surely?

My only thoughts is maybe they are made by another company and branded with Kent's name. The BK8 I have is top notch in quality.

You think that you're buying a major brand and ....

me thinks that Kent is cashing in on it's name with some cheap drugstore brushes.

Probably your better off buying a Semogue or Omega boar. If you're looking for an British brush, perhaps Vulflix?

Good Luck,

i have other boars, and my omega is the standard by which I judge all boars and this falls far below the mark. im really disappointed, I expected much more from kent, regardless of price! if anybody is considering one id say avoid kent boars like the plague (im not trying to slander the kent name, only that their boars are garbage)

you done well to send it back, they are absolute garbage, i dont know if the one i got was a reject or not, i got it from one of the discount stores in the uk and not from kent, heres a pic of it after 2 shaves. $razor 2 032.jpg$razor 2 033.jpg

I bought a Kent boar and sold it before it even touched water. I knew just from holding it and looking at it that it wasn't going to hold a candle to the Semogue, Omega and Vulfix boar brushes that I have in rotation. No need to bring a stinker into the batting order when its already loaded with sluggers.

If there are any Kent reps on this forum, please, for the love of god; read this and fix the boars! There hasn't been one supportive comment yet, that's must be enough to do something about it?

Nice work on the restore! :thumbup1:
Maybe the painted label will wear off and you will have a nice clean looking wood handle.
GDC, you seem to be a man in the know about synthetic brushes, i got one of the kent infinitys and like the brush a lot, i am thinking of getting the muhle m316 synthetic, how would you rate it against the kent, if its as good as the kent i would be happy, the handle looks top notch, but looks are not everything, is it a good performer.$muhle.jpg

When we first discovered that kent shaving bowls were the same thing as MWF, I went to eBay to buy one. The bowl + disposable razor + kent boar brush was literally $1 more than the bowl of soap by itself. So yes, they are cheap, disposable brushes, not at all comparable to kent's badger line.
