What's new

Keepers

I’ve a drawer full of razors that sooner or later will find a new home. A handful of vintage razors will never be sold, even though I’ll never use them. Then, there’s the artillery, the tops, the elite shavers, every single one of them never stopped amazing me.

- Blackbird Ti (the elected president);
- Gibbs adjustable;
- Tatara Nodachi SB & OC, both with mini handles;
- Lupo .95 with Windrose R3 Ti handle;
- Vector SB.

What are your keepers?

I've self-limited myself to a total of 6.
From here on out, I'll allow myself to purchase another razor,
but if I keep it, another must go...

Gillette Tech (pre-war, fat-handle)
FOCS
Karve (brass, OC-B, OC-C, OC-D)
RR Lupo (.72, .95)
Merkur Progress
Blackland Dart (machined)

With multiple plates for the Karve and Lupo,
plus the adjustability of the Progress;
this list sure feels like a lot more than 6 shavers.

My three are: Muhle Rocca Jet Black, Above The Tie copper CH1 plate w/brushed matte steel cap and Kronos handle and Timeless Brass/stainless steel .68 sb plate

I would have included Karve brass w/F plate in that but I'm swapping it out for their newer copper line and going C plate on it and in place of the F aggression I'm getting a Homelike Shaving Colibri 1.30 sb, hopefully those two will join the pantheon of Keepers as well

At the moment, my list goes:

Keepers:
2011 Muhle R41
Stirling SS Hyper Aggressive
Feather Artist Club Teak Handle Straight Razor

On the fence, but I'll probably keep:
2013 R41
New R41 SS
Ikon Tek

Likely going up for sale or trade:
Merkur Futur

That said, there are several other razors I am curious to try. Vector, Blackbird, Razorock Lupo 95 etc. I also have some cheap Yaqi heads on order to try out. I was content and completely cured of RAD until I noticed my 2011 R41 was starting to corrode/pit. That restarted the search.

Karve with plate C/D
Like Grandpa with plate D (OC)

That's a very interesting question. I own many DE and SE razors and I really enjoy using some of them a lot, but for the right price, I can sell every razor I own. The ones I most likely won't sell are my 2x MMOC, MMCP, Schick M3, Schick G1 and Schick E3 and the reason for that is because almost none in Europe is intrested in these razors and even if someone is, I doubt that I would get even 100$ for all of them.

The DE razors which I really enjoy using, but if the price is right can find a new home at any time (in no particular order) are:

GC .84 sb
Merkur Progress
Pearl Flexi
NEW LC
Super Adjustable 109
Aristocrat #16
Aristocrat #66
FOCS
Schone

I still haven't tested the Lupo DC and I have to wait God knows how long before the RFB arrives, but I have a feeling that they will be added to that list. If I had a super rare vintage razor in mint or NOS condition, I would have probably consider keeping it ''forever'', but since everything I own is far from ultra rare or unique and can be bought at any time anywhere, I really don't see why I would keep them if the price is right.

3one6
GC 84
Phoenix DOC
FB, slim, '30's OC (don't really use them, to precious to me).
Merkur 34G, also never used. Odd but can't help it. Too beautiful.
Got rid of Merkur Futur gold (too heavy), Progress (head too thick), 2 techs, R41 (too aggressive).
Love 3one6 best. Great material, workmanship, and shave. With Bic Platinum... awesome.
Discovered that blade on B&B, thanks.
