Karl Malden, Everyman Actor, Dies at 97

I remember him best for "The Streets of San Francisco" and "On the Waterfront." A fine, fine actor.

I think this says even more about the man than his acting career:

"Malden and his wife, Mona, a fellow acting student at the Goodman, had one of Hollywood's longest marriages, having celebrated their 70th anniversary in December."

(Sigh) Another figure of my younger days gone on.

Loved him in "Patton" and will always remember the American Express commercials: "What will you do?" and "Don't leave home without it".

Seventy years together? That's something you don't associate with Hollywood.

They're dropping like flies.

He was a terrific actor, and was even acknowledged in a Family Guy spot.

Karl Malden was proof that you didn't need to be a pretty boy to make a career in Hollywood.

Rest in Peace, Sir.
