Kanayama. KANAYAMA!

I'm so excited! I just purchased a Kanayama #3 as well as the canvas replacement for it. I feel like I need to scream it from the mountain tops but not many people live up there so I'll tell you all instead! I got it from the same website Doc posted that he got his so hopefully it's a trustworthy source. Up until this point I've only owned and used a Dovo strop I got from AOS. So whats the deal with this one?? canvas then suede then leather?? Or is the canvas kind of obsolete at this point?

I would go canvas suede leather.

Great choice on the strop. You will love it.

Do I even need to hit linen every day? Right now I do 25/50 linen and leather pre and 15/30 post. With the mythical Kanayama powers does linen become a once in a while thing, or is it still good to hit them all every day?

TBO the efficacy of canvas is still up for debate. Some use it to friction heat the edge, some use it to clean the edge, some use it to micro hone the edge, some don't use it at all. Same for the suede component.

I would use different combination to see what you like best. I enjoy stropping, so I would probably do 40/40/40 pre and 10 post shave on the suede to be sure the bevel is clean and dry.

YMMV ;).

It is my "highly recommended". #3 with the canvas. I use mine all the time. My 80 000 hangs next to it for eye candy.

I bought the 2196 and did not care for the canvas. Bought a #3 and it hangs next to my Tony Miller #2 and both get regular use.

I use the canvas. I didn't soften it or fool with it. I've just been using it. It's starchy and a little stiff, but I imagine that the surface is just like the craftsman envisioned. And if he wanted it to be so other way it already would be! I also have a Barber's Cut TM steerhide with linen rounding out the first string.

Love the canvas, somewhat confused by the suede, and the shell is exquisite.
I'm separating all 3 components - I don't like swinging stuff attached to anything but that's just my personal peeve.
I also redid the hardware - that clip is functional but a little cheesy.
I tend to modify stuff sometimes...

I've had several kanayamas..Not a great fa of the canvas or suede, just like te leather i much rather use natural softer linen and then kanayama leather

i have 2 -Kanajama stropes and some other but for me the kanajama is the best you can get! the leather is a dream verry soft and ultra fine! i never have seen something on other stropes!

if you have the money buy one for my personal choice i would take the 90.000 if i were you becouse this strope is something special!

Just received my #3 on Monday and it is very nice. Shipping was very fast from Aframes and the thickness is very even from top to bottom. It looks incredibly similar to my vintage shell that I like so much. Thanks guys for the other thread that pushed me to this purchase. I may even purchase another for my b-day.

What hardware did you use. I'd like to separate the suede out.

Well done you, a beautiful strop, I have the Cordovan #80000, with linen suede and leather fantastic piece of kit.
