Kai Captain Titan vs Schick Proline

three-tu-tu, three-tu-tu
I recently acquired my first SE razor, Alpha Spirit, which I love - but I'm searching for a favorite blade. I've tried Feathers (proguard, professional and super) and the super gives me the shave I'm looking for, but with some irritation (which, of course, I'm not seeking). The Kai pink is very nice, but not quite sharp enough. The Kai Captain Titan is my favorite at the moment, but I do need to be very light-handed to avoid irritation - but a great shave.

Since I can't find samples of the Schick proline, which seems to be very popular here, I'm wondering if anyone can compare it to either Kai blade in terms of sharpness, etc.

Many thanks.

They should be sharper than Kai mild blades, but as we have learned recently our perceptions aren't always reality. That said, they definitely feel like they have less resistance and a more crisp edge, less than a Kai Captain for sure. In all honesty, they are more like a smoother Feather Pro than anything else I can come up with. They don't have that cushioned feel that Kai Mild blades do though. I am afraid you are just going to have to try them for yourself. One warning though, they are the only AC format blade that I have gotten a couple bad blades in and the results were not mild so I started checking them visually. Oh also, they are the one blade with weird slots that make them hard to seat in some razors, this used to be talked about more so maybe it's not a concern anymore.

I shaved a fortune
I couldn't get a decent shave with the Prolines... I tried, I really did. They are so well regarded here, I gave them several chances, but Larry ended up getting a great deal on the 2 full and one partial packages of 30 I had.

I've been using AC razors for the past 2.5+ years.. not exclusively, but quite a bit. I recently redid my initial tests and ran through all of them, minus the Schick Prolines. For me, and my whiskers/face, I enjoyed the Kai "Mild" Pinks.... I don't find them mild at all... Again, for me.... very sharp and smooth. I also enjoy the Kai Protouch Guarded blades, but I ended up buying 2 boxes of 10 packages of the "Mild" Pinks from Japan to get the price down considerably.

The Feather ProSuper work well when I feel the need to boost an AC razor's performance a bit. For me, they seem to be smoother than the other Feather offerings. Feather Professional blades are my least favorite and not by a small amount. I don't mind the Feather ProGuards, but prefer the Kai Protouch by a smidgen. As always, YMMV.

For anyone who's interested, my experience with the Schick Proline was not a rousing success. In my Alpha Spirit (which I believe is not the most aggressive SE razor - but I'm going by what I read as it's the only one I have) the Proline blade is considerably less sharp than what I remember of the Kai pink blades (it was 10 days ago).

My first shave was quite uncomfortable, with some mild tugging in what I assumed was a way too dull blade, but the shave wasn't as bad as I expected. I had been using the Kai Captain for the last 9 shaves and the Proline was considerably less sharp. The results were not terrible, but the comfort during the shave was. The second shave was slightly better.

Seeing as I purchased about 30 of these I'll try another to see if it's just a bad blade, but I am unimpressed. Since they are popular I'm guessing they might work much better in a more aggressive razor, or maybe a different face or technique. But I did well with both Feathers and both Kai blades, so I'm not so sure.

I find that the Kai Captains give me the best shave, although they do require a very light hand (at least for me).

I have used both in my various AC shavettes. I find Prolines a bit sharper than Kai Captain Titan to begin with. Also, Prolines retains it's sharpness way more than Kai. I can get 7-8 shaves of 3 passes each out of Kai whereas I get around 20-21 shaves of 3 passes with Prolines.
Hope this helps !

I find Schick Prolines has quality control issues. Their blades aren't as consistent as Kai or Feathers. When they're good, they're very good
I agree. The Prolines tend to be all over the map, but when I find a good batch they are the best of the best.

I tried another Schick blade and it wasn't any better than the first one. It's possible there are better blades somewhere in that collection, but I don't feel inclined to torture myself with any more tries. These are the dullest blades I've tried in many years.

The Feather Professional was a nice blade, but not quite sharp enough for what I need - a near BBS with a WTG pass followed by an ATG pass. I suspect they'd be fine with three passes. The Feather Super was sharp enough, but not comfortable enough.

The Titan Pink was a very nice blade, but not quite sharp enough. The Titan Captain was very nice, and I think I will stock up on them, but I'm going to give the Pink one more try.
