What's new

Just won two razors on e-bay auctions

Hi all, well I am truly chuffed with myself, lol. I was gonna buy a merkur 23c as my first real Safety razor, however the store was out of stock, so I went the e-bay route today. my first time actually bidding on anything as opposed to buy now,ha.
Anyway, I bought/won two safety razors, the first one is "1979 gillette razor safety razor in original plastic case" which looks pristine in all the photos. it's 16.85 euro for the razor, and postage from the States to dublin is 7.93 euro. chuffed with that one.
Also got a Vintage Gillette safety razor, which the seller thinks is circa 1931 to 1951, looks pretty good aswell. I won/bought that one for 9.12 euro, and am waiting for the postage cost to be verfied, hopefully it will be around a fiver if the other similar ads doing the same distance are anything to go by.
All in all, it's around 40 euro all in for two what I hope wil be great starter razors.
I went into the body shop today and seen a shaving brush for 9.95, which may do me for the time being.although their soap was 13.95, which I think I will shop around for.
I have been a little bit obsessed with all this shaving lark all weekend, lol, and am not going to shave now until I take delivery of these new razors. Gonna invest in a starter bundle of blades aswell to see what suits best :)
Thanks so much to everyone who has been posting on this site, it is a veritable goldmine of information.

congratulations, I think vintage or second hand is the way to go, at least for me at any rate. I like to buy my soaps, etc new, but pretty much everything else I don't mind buying second-hand vintage at all. I figure I can always clean something up and i don't really care what it looks like because it is just me looking at it, unless the Mrs decides to peruse my collection for some reason.
I hope you two finds serve you well.

I've seen the bodyshop brush and soap, i wouldn't suggest paying their prices. Look online for a decent starter brush and soap. Proraso can be found pretty cheap and is good stuff, and the Taylor Of Old Bond Street soap is pretty good and can be found for under £10 shipped :)

These pics are of the 1979 Gillette, which cost me 16.85.ND IT'S COMING FROM THE STATES It won't let me take a pic of the other one, which cost 9 something and is coming from England., however the Link is up.

If that's not enough, lol, I also have got an offer of 15 wuro accepted for three Vintage Gillettes tonight on adverts.ie. the link for those is
http://www.adverts.ie/other-antiques-collectables/old-razor-set/1799080
They look like they could do with a bit of a clean, however I have been reading up on cleaning/restoring razors today, hopefully they will come up good enough.
Lol, when I get started on things like this there is no stopping me.

Oh yeah, Ironfist, I went in today and purchased a Men-U shaving brush instead of the body shop one, it cost 14.50 euro, and came with a mini Men-U shaving cream, also bought a boots shave bowl and some shave soap in it. There is a cigar shop in Dublin City , James Fox, which sells shaving soap for 6.95, I read somewhrere it was a good brand, Taylors I think.

Lol, the only thing I have shaved in the past few days is the inside of my wallet,ha.

Thanks again for all the wisdom guys :)
