What's new

Just tried my Aqua Velva Cool Blue...

....and I can honestly it was amazing. :w00t:

I was a bit concerned at first when I sniffed it from the bottle, but it once it was on my face - WOW!!! It was so cool and refreshing and the smell I was initially a little bit worried about, was actually pretty nice - so much so, my better half actually liked it too!! ....... and she was laughing at me first cause she thought it smelled so bad in the bottle!!!

I just want to thank you guys for recommending this to me - next on my hit list - some bay rum!!!

Congrats & welcome to the club. Isn't it amazing how something seeming so cheap & pedestrian can be absolutely fabulous!!!! AV is great stuff. I love trying all kind of different aftershaves, so much so I no longer buy cologne but have an AS for any occasion. Looking forward to hearing what you try next. Any mainstays in Scotland that we here in the US don't know about????

I love the stuff. I never used it until I started DE shaving and now splashing it on is one of my favorite parts of the whole shaving process :thumbup1:

Glad you liked it! I do not like the scent in the bottle, but once it's on the skin and airs out / dries down, it's pretty decent! I have to agree with Cricky101. The after-splash is about my favorite part of the process.

Rode the Aqua Velva Classic Blue express just this morning and it was amazing. I think I'll repeat this set up tomorrow. The cooling effect is remarkable and like most of the classics, the bottle scent is a far cry from how it actually smells in the service position. This one is a keeper for sure. Sixty years of Aqua Velva'd codgers can't be wrong

Initially I wasn't impressed by AV. In fact, in an act of heresy, I gave the first bottle I purchased to my dad after only one use. Then I tried it again. And liked it. A lot. It's one of my mainstays and will remain so. Currently there are 3 bottles in the house (two empty).

Aqua Velva Ice Blue is a great aftershave. I picked up some Clubman today and love it too. You should try it out. I do have to say that they both smell a bit cheapy sometimes. They are mainstays for sure--everyday aftershaves. I still can't work up the courage to try Old Spice, mainly because whenever I smell Old Spice deoderant I get sinus headaches and want to vomit. Is the OS a/s the same as the OS armpit stick?

Though, I think I want to try something more expensive to have on reserve for special occasions...any recommendations? How many quality aftershaves have menthol?

You might try Proraso Splash or German Pitralon Classic. They are two of my very favorite with menthol. As a matter of fact Pitralon is one of my fav's period.

Some folks like Floid, some don't, haven't tried it myself but it sure does have a cool looking bottle.

Yeah, the Floid sure is pretty. I am thinking I might try out Musgo and Floid. Where can you find that German Pitralon?

I think alpineimporters.com sells the Pitralon. From what I gather it's kind of hard to find. Amazon may have it. St. Charles Shave Blue Line has a pretty solid menthol kick to it. Moreso than many others, and it is not expensive.
