What's new

Just snagged this on Ebay.

Nice score.

One can not always be certain with photos only. But the case looks to be a 1941 Milord Tech and the razor looks like it could be a “post Pearl Harbor” production Milord Tech.

(Milord head and a Ranger handle) no end caps and looks like text on the smooth band above the TTO knob.

The theory goes like this. As the war effort ramped up and the civilian production of razors came to a stop, parts were not finished but used from whatever point in production they happened to be at. If they had a gold Milord head but no gold handle well grab those nickel Ranger Tech handles over there and get to work. Don’t you know there is a war on.

I have a couple hybrids and one more on the way. (Would have been two on the way but you out bid me…lol)

Congrats on your win.

I see this in the Milords, Rangers and Aristocrats from 1941 parts and 1946 parts, which is consistent with the struggles of pre and post war manufacturing.

That could be an interesting thread someday. Members could list the parts combos of their razors from 41 and 46.

The seller assured me the entire razor is gold. I think it is a 1940 Milord. We shall see.

I received the razor yesterday. Just got done cleaning it up. At this point I have to say it is a combo tech. The head and neck are definetely 1940 Milord. The case is a perfect match for the one on Achim's website. I do not think the handle ever had any gold on it. It matches my Ranger Tech perfect. I do believe it was one made during the early part of the war when Gillette was geared for war time, and using different pieces for civilians. So how bad does that impact its value? Then again I did not pay that much for it so it is unique.

The outside of the case is very nice. The inside not so much. Is there a way to save them or am I just better off throwing out the felt part.

Not a bad idea I shall take a couple. I will have them up before I go to bed.

Not to hijack but I too just snagged this which turned out to be a 1946 Milord in a mismatched case I suppose.

Mine appears to be in good shape but has quite a bit of gunk in the blade tray. What is the best way to gently clean these gold razors?

Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner and an old toothbrush do wonders, it not only cleans but also disinfects.

Congrats on the 46 Milord....that Model is on my short list.

Thank you sir, I will attack it with a toothbrush and see if I can de-gunk it.
