What's new

Just scored some grungy SE razors, help.

Hello,
I scored a lot of razors on ebay, I'm familiar with the Gillette DEs well enough, but it came with 4 razors (3 models) I don't know much about...

The first one is an injector razor, I believe it's the E model, it has a butterscotch colored bakelite handle. It also has an old blade in it, how do I remove it? This one looks cool, so I really want to try it out.

The next are a pair of GEM micromatics, one OC, and one closed comb. They look simple enough, turn the base, and the top opens, is that it? Do they shave well? Sounds like blades are a specialty item...

The last is a Rhodes Kriss Cross. I can't figure out how to open this one. Any ideas? Does it also take a specialty blade?

Thanks,
Paul.

The injector will take the key to remove the old blade. A new blade forces the old one out. As far as the Gems that is all there is to it. The OC can be aggressive if you are not used to a SE. They are great shavers. The Kris's Cross takes a proprietary blade.

Here is a picture of the injector key it is the silver thing.

Thanks for the quick reply. Should I be able to push out the old blade with a screwdriver and the key? It needs to be cleaned...

You will bend the razor. Look at my pic above of what you need. If you need some blades PM me your addy I will pif you an Injector and some SE blades.

You can open some of the E types by rotating the spring to the left which opens the blade compartment. The E types only have one patent number and say others pending under the number.

By the way, welcome to the wonderful world of SE's!

Take a look at the instructions next to the razor in BigFoot's pic. Insert the key of the blade holder into the razor as shown, slide the little blade loader (it's next to the key on top of the blade cartridge in the pic.) to the rear and then push it towards the razor to load a fresh blade. To take the blade out so you can clean the razor just push the new blade in far enough to push the old blade out enough to get ahold of it with a pair of pliers. Take the key out and pull the old blade from the razor with the pliers, then carefully push the new blade back into the cartridge.

It's best not to load a fresh blade in an empty razor to avoid dulling it by it hitting the blade stops on the way in. You can take the old blade (save it for this purpose) and reload it back into the cartridge. You can do this by pushing down on the blades already in the cartridge with something to make room for the used blade. You can also load the old blade in and empty cartridge by using something to push down on the spring in the cartridge so you can load it. BE CAREFUL!

Then after the razor is cleaned up you can load the used blade in the razor, then load a fresh blade that will push the used blade out...and you're set!

If you have the type that opens you can do that to get the old blade out, but you'll still need to load a used blade first after cleaning.

I really enjoy my old Schicks; once you get used to an injector they are easy and fast to use. They are my daily shavers, but I'll use a Gem or Ever-Ready every once in awhile just to change things up.
