What's new

Just purchased some Knize Ten

I found some at a Manufactum in Germany. Knize Ten geniusly sells these small 15 mL bottles, so I decided to get one to test the scent out.

I really like this scent, but it strikes me as more of a winter scent. Would it be weird to wear this during the summer? Obviously, I would use less than I would in the winter.

I know others have a different opinion, but I don't think colognes have to be limited to certain seasons, or even daytime vs evening. But having said that, I always consider what I'm going to be doing, where I'm going, and what the weather is like when I choose a fragrance. And in the summer, it's likely that more often I'll choose a lighter scent, something citrusy, or a lighter vetiver, for example. I really like Knize Ten, but the opening blast makes me hesitate to wear it when I'm going to be working in close quarters with others, especially when the summer heat has a tendency to amplify scents. Think I'll try it today just for fun!

There are some scents that likely wear better or perform better in certain weather for sure. But if I'm in the mood to wear a scent, I pay little attention to seasons.

A scent like Knize 10 would probably have to applied a bit lighter in warm to hot weather though. It might really "bloom" on you if gets real hot. I guess I'm thinking of wearing it when getting into a super hot car with other people on the way to lunch. There could be a couple of minutes where Knize really overwhelms in that kind of situation.

I've come to regard seasons pretty highly as determiners of what I wear. Mostly because of the stark New England contrasts we have of frigid winters and tropical summers. The idea of wearing something as fleeting as Guerlain's vetiver in the winter makes little sense to me based on my location, and I wouldn't dream of using Yatagan or Quorum on 98° July days. I'm fascinated by how many guys are wearing Montale fragrances this summer, especially Black Aoud.

I almost bought a bottle of Ten when I was in Berlin recently but opted for the C&S 88 instead. To me it is more of a fragrance for the cooler parts of the year.

I did not use anything else for over 20 years....Now I wear it a couple times per month as I have amassed so many other scents.

I know Knize Ten has a lot of fans, and when I tried it I found that it dried down to "nice but not my style," but man oh man, that opening blast was one of the worst fragrance experiences of my life! I felt like my nose has been attacked by the fragrance equivalent of Chuck Norris!

Hmm. Maybe I should try it again . . .

Matthew, I've now spent a day wearing Knize Ten in Houston in July, and I enjoyed it. I still find the opening blast fascinating, and the dry down was pleasant in the office. I even went outside at noon, where it wasn't terribly hot (about 88) but the humidity was up as it was threatening to rain. I still think most of the time my preference in the heat will be to reach for something a little lighter, but I won't hesitate to wear this again before cool weather comes around again.

No offense to the OP or any other K10 fans, of course. After all, at least one fragrance I like has been described by a very esteemed member here as "cat pee"!

I will admit, the opening blast is pretty gross. I get nothing but a strong alcohol scent for the first five seconds or so.

As a Knize Ten fan, I'm certainly not offended. I think YMMV probably applies to fragrances more than it does to anything else. For example, I don't understand why nearly everyone else thinks Gray Flannel is awesome, and I had to wash it off - both times as I did give it a second try. :thumbup1:

what could be more summery than hot leather?

seriously... I enjoy going against the season with scents - there are times in the winter when nothing feels better than bay rum and lime (or either alone) -

hey - whatever makes me happy, y'know?
