Just Pulled the Trigger On A Two-Band

Simpsons Super Tulip 1. Got what seems to be a good deal. Intend to use it exclusively for face lathering soaps. Will I be happy :confused1 ? My first brush is a Vulfix Pure Badger that is not softly tipped enough and holds very little water.

You should be very happy, there are not many un happy Simpson users  Their 2 band hair is nothing less than lovable.

I think that you'd be happy with the brush! I enjoy my 2 Tulip 2's very much, one in 2-band and one in 3-band Super and they're great brushes. Of course we all have our preferences so it isn't 100%.

You will be ecstatic! Definitely a luxurious brush -- one that'll start as a winner and just get better and better over the first couple of months as you break it in. Enjoy!

The Simpson two band super grade is really nice. I don't have a Tulip, but I do have a CH1 and CH2 in two band and they are both something special. They take a little while to break in fully and get the hang of, but totally worth it.

I received my first two-band Simpson--a Tulip 2--just over a week ago, and it has been improving with each use. It may feel prickly at first--mine definitely did--but the softness improves if you give it some time.

It's perfect for face lathering soaps.

I must admit that since the last one available is mine I'm a little paranoid. Thought is that if seller hand picks brushes for customers mine would be the runt of the litter. Does Simpsons occasionally have bad apples or is their QC top notch?

Which of the two, two-band or three-band super is the softer?

I think I would give the slight edge to the 2-band. They really do have some fine tips. It's awful close though. If you want backbone and softness go with the 2-band. If you like a brush that splays a bit and soft the 3-band would be the one.

I worried about the same thing getting one of the last T2's. Mine ended up being excellent, though.

If anything, you can just hope that Jim lives on a philosophy of saving the best for last.

I picked up the last Chubby 2 two band from Vintage Blades and it was just fine. In fact I did not experience the break in period that most people seem to with these two bands. Mine was soft and lathered well from the get go. Though if it gets better (crossing my fingers) I wont complain.

I got one of the very last T2s he had, along with the usual note saying it was hand-selected, and it is flat-out wonderful. Not a shedder. Great shape and even profile to the knot. Can't find a flaw, and I'm picky.

I doubt you'll have anything to worry about, but if things did go seriously awry, seems I've heard that Simpson is a stand-up outfit re customer service.

I also used a Vulfix (1016? re-branded as Col. Conk, but a bit larger...) for some months and I think you'll find the Tulip a huge step up.
