Not sure when (or if ever) I will get it honed or shave with it since I feel like I have a lot of research and reading to do first before I know what to do with this thing.

Nice find! Looks like it will hone up nicely, there are a ton of people on here that are honemeisters who can hook you up if you want to go that route. If you want to hone/restore it yourself, there is plenty of information and enablers on B and B forum to help you along. Either way, good luck!

Anyone know what kind of blade this is? It says FOR BARBER'S USE. Is this a hollow ground or a wedge?

Congrats! W&B are getting harder and harder to get for a reasonable price! I'm sure it'll turn out to be a very nice shaver!

Nice. Its hollow ground and a great size for a beginner. They shave well. Clean it up but I suggest you have it honed or get a shave ready razor to compare to. Its good to know what shave ready feels like. Very sharp and shave ready are still miles apart lol. Good luck! Please keep us posted.

Complete garbage.............

Send my way for proper disposal...

By the way what size is that thing? looks at least 6/8ths. They hone well. I would say remove the rust with some high grit sandpaper and get shaving. Cheapest way is lapping film for honing. I'm sure if you need honing someone will help you out for free. If not by the middle of the month I'll do it.

Andy, the blade is just about 6/8 but almost 13/16. Thanks for the offer to hone but being that I've never done anything with a SR before I don't trust trying to even clean it myself. I may just get it professionally restored and honed.

It's actually not alot of work http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...Restoration-Sticky-Redux!-*****Look-Here***** . Just get a plastic pipe cut a piece that will fit two fingers and rub the sandpaper up and down. I don't think you need it professionally rehoned as many of us here can do the same .Restoration for a 6/8th's I think is not neccesary since there are so many of them around. Why pay $150 for a restore when the razor didn't even cost that much? Those old razors are strong so don't worry. The scales look fine. It's just rust that will easily come off ( you don't have pitting so consider yourself lucky) . Max 20 minutes getting the rust off, polish it and the honing can be the next step.

Is this your first razor by the way?

I will definitely read some of the wiki's and see if its something a total noob like me can figure out. I have DE razors but this is my first straight. Thanks for all the tips and advise!
