What's new

Just ordered my first Thäter brush - any Thäter owners/experts that can assist ?

Hello Thäter owners :biggrin1:

I just bought my first ever Thäter brush - and only place close to Denmark in Europe I could find was an online shop placed in Berlin, Germany - only about 200 miles away from where I am.
So a bit less travel than if I bought it at straight razor designs in the US and then would have to pay tax and customs on top of the price (which I don't have to, when bought inside the European Union)

But I did this purchase sort of in total SBAD inspired mood. I actually had a Thäter on order already - I had told one of my friends to purchase it, when he visits Germany nest month, but instead of doing that I saw this website had Thäter brushes and can now se they also sell some of my favorite niche fragrances, Xerorff, Bois 1920, Penhaligon, Mona Di Orio & Frapin at reasonable prices - so took the chance and ordered this Thäter brush:

Now my German isn't exactly quite as 'good' as my English is, but as far as I could understand (the website is entirely in German, only the name name of the shop is in English for some reason) this is supposed to be the model 49125 with the plexiglas-black handle and a Silvertip 3-band version with a knot size of 26 mm and bulb shaped knot. Am I correct or have a ordered a brush that will disappoint me

Is this brush -with same plexiglas clear & black handle- available in the same bulb shaped 26 mm knot in a Silvertip 2-Band version ?
I ONLY face lather, and I prefer 2-Band type of brushes, but also own a Mühle Sophist Silvertip 3-Bander, that is extremely soft and almost floppy - and I also like this brush, especially used with my very soft creams - what can I expect from the Thäter brush I just bought performance wise ?

As mentioned I ONLY face lather, and only use creams and croaps (not soaps) and currently own these brushes:

Mühle Sophist Silvertip 3-Band 24 mm bulb
Mühle Stylo Thuja Wood Silvertip Fibre 21 mm
Mühle Classic Silvertip Fibre 25 mm
Simpson Duke 2 in Best
Simpson Duke 3 in Super 2-Band
Simpson Chubby 2 in Super 2-Band
Shavemac Custom 24 mm Fan-shape D01 2-Band

On its way to me:
Rooney Stubby Heritage 2XL 2-Band Fan-shape (Thanks to a B&B member from the US, thank you very much for your help)
Thäter 49125/2 III 26 mm Bulb-shape 3-Band ??

Did I order something completely else or can you calm me down and tell me I'm all good, and everything is just fine :biggrin1:

I paid €157 for it including shipment to me in Denmark - that is circa $194, a bit cheaper than I would have paid at straight razor design if you incluse the tax and customs + shipping to Europe.

This is where I purchased my first Thater about 3 years ago,and at that time this was the only vendor selling the Thater brushes with ivory handles. I was informed shipping to America voided the warranty, although I did buy it anyway, and luckily have not had any problems. Please, can you tell me what kind of warranty was offered to you ? thanks and good shaving to you !

I don't know yet, but I expect them to provide a solid 1 or 2 years warranty - but you probably have to pay for the shipping of the brush to them, so that might be a problem......

Shipping was €9/$11 to Denmark, which I find is reasonable fair.......

Claus, That's a great brush and you'll find that the knot will be larger than 26 mm (mine is 29 mm). I use mine for face-lathering and due to its radical bulb shape it has plenty of backbone and a luxurious feel.

I think you will like the Thater. Thaters are extremely soft, but because of the high knot density, they have good backbone as well - even the three-bands. It will be a great brush with creams and croaps, but be aware that they are soap hogs.

Just found another website from Germany that will sell all versions of Thäter brushes (all handle types) in either 2-Band bulb or 2-Band fan shape at 20% extra - pm me if interested !
I'm probably getting this 49125/2 in 2-Band bulb also...... Will cost around €182

Thanks - as mentioned PM me if you want any Thäter in bulb or fan in 2-Band. Found a vendor that sell them at 20% extra cost.

Example:
49125/2 3-Band: €152
49125/2 2-Band: €182

Sounds great !

Hope it does not bloom like most 3-Banders do, in that case I should have bought the 49125/1 in 3-Band

They don't bloom much... Knot size tends to be 2mm larger than advertised but due to bulb shape this is not a big deal. Enjoy the brush! For me there are no better!

Hey! Me too!

I bought a 4125/2 from straightrazordesigns last night and I'm dying to get my hands on it and give it a go.

I'm using the 4125/1 bulb shaped 2-bander. I love it. I'd love it more with the 49125 handle, but I couldn't get the 2-band with that handle at the time. I'd also love to try the fan shape as well. I have to stop the ADs for a little while. I have hobbies going neglected. ;-)

I hope this works out for you. I love my Thater and can't wait for my next one, but I have only been at this a month and have more brushes than I can even evaluate properly yet, as I just keep going back to the 4125 every day. Each other brush gets a 1 or 2 day trial, and then it fails to impress, and I stick with the Thater.

Just got email from the store (Thedifferentscent.com) - the brush is out of stock and can't be shipped before Thäter opens again 14.th of August - so should should I just cancel it and order the 2-Band version, what would your advice be ?

I prefer the 2-Band Chubby 2 and Duke 3 to their sisters - Best and Super 3-band - and I face lather exclusively now with any type of shaving cream, ranging from soft creams (Creighton stuff) to croaps (Santa Maria Nov, Acqua di Par, Acca Kappa 1869)..... don't use soaps (dry out my skin)

My instinct tells me to cancel it, now it's O.O.S. any way - and make a new order for the 49125/2 in 2-band bulb - will cost me an extra €30, but that's Okay

I think I'm a 2-Band kind of guy now....... :biggrin1:

I switched from a 4125/2 3-band to a 4125/3 2-band. The 3-band was definitely softer (maybe the softest brush I owned) and they are/were both soap hogs, but both felt great on my face. If you have decided that you're a 2-band type of guy, then go ahead and order the 2-band. You won't regret it.

I have the 49215/3 and it's a wonderful brush, I face lather exclusively and I go between it and my Duke 2.

The Thater is so soft it's like being brushed by angel wings :)

I decided to take the SBAD road and order one of each

A 49125/2 3-Bander €148 and a 49125/2 2-Bander €182 - including shipment.
Now I just need a Shavemac in 3-Band D01 and I'm all set for now.....until next week...... sighhhhh ..... SBAD is baddddd stuff...... :cursing:

Sorry, don't you mean you have the 49125/3 in 3-band or :confused1

I looked the 49215 up, and I couldn't find any info on that model :biggrin1:

Claus,

I have a 49125 in a size smaller. mine is a three bam
nd. I think you'll be quite pleased with it.

Getting a two band also is a greasy treat. Enjoy them.

And, yes, SBAD is a hard thing. But we carry on!
