What's new

Just one word

I quite often shave in the evening, and for this evenings shave I was using my Kai folding straight. I've always used either my Feather AC straight, and even my Parker SRW. The Kai is new to me, and I find it to be an even better shaver than the Feather AC. The head is even thinner, and handle's even easier.

I was in a bit of a hurry tonight, and I managed to give myself a very minor nick on my chin. Nothing serious mind you, just a stupid case of taking my concentration away for a second and trying to speed things along.

My one word about trying to rush things with a straight is:

DON'T

Sound advice for anyone putting a razor sharp piece of steel to face.

+1 Never rush things!

I "rush" things by using a very sharp razor and getting a good shave in one pass.

I've noticed that I'm done shaving in about 5 minutes from lather to clean up and it's just got so much faster with experience and repetition. I have the same routine and technique for about the last 250 shaves.

Even then it's not rushed. Just efficient.

I'm thinking of shaving in the evening myself in order to have enough time to slow things down. The only downside of course is not being quite so clean shaven at work but perhaps the evening shave would be the way to to when you're still learning the ways of the straight.

There came a time with me, and I'm assuming most guys who do this for a while, that you have the skills to rush a shave. I can get dressed from shower, shave, and out the door within 20 minutes if I need to. I don't enjoy it as much as my leisurely shaves, but it's doable. The key is to know your abilities and don't rush 'em until you're ready :001_smile

The question I have is, Why Rush? take your time and just enjoy the shave! :thumbup1:

I shave at night also, so I dont' have to rush. problem is, by the morning I've got some stubble already. I really enjoy the summer (teacher here) because i have time to enjoy my shave in the morning and through the day.

On those rare occasions that I have to shave in the morning and rush through it, I just plain don't enjoy it. it turns shaving back into a chore again. But it's a chore that needs to be done...with a disposable (dont' hate me).

If you're in a situation where you really can't take the time needed to enjoy a safe and comfortable shave then I think you're much better off reaching for a DE instead of a straight.
