What's new

Just might be something to this SE thing.

OK - I'm a fairly new and just recently got into wet shaving with a DE about 6 months ago; decided to give an SE a try after talking to a co-worker and more lurking here on B&B :001_cool:

Picked up an OCMM that is in excellent shape and promptly picked up some S/S Gem blades from Walgreen's yesterday; fired up the SE this morning and was immediately impressed - the SE blade seemed to knock down the hairs easier than the DE, especially the obscure areas that usually took several passes with a DE.
Only had one minor bleeder on the underside of my nose; went in a little to carelessly and the blade caught the bottom / side area of my nose.

Only one SE shave under my belt so far but looking forward to learning more; already have another razor on the way - an Ever-Ready 1912.

Here's my OCMM

You will love the ER 1912. It's my favorite SE. I have a GEM OCMM on the way though. I look forward to trying it.

thats a really cool stand! Where'd you get it? or is that homemade?

Here's an Amazon link of the stand; I don't remember if I got it from Amazon or elsewhere.
It's not bad but is showing some water damage; not the best clear on it out of the box but won't be hard to sand and re-finish as needed.

You'll soon have a dozen of them.

Turtle - I'm afraid you may be right; already spending too much time surfing the Bay and thinking about what local joints are good to scope out some finds.
Already thinking of a new stand (probably home built), at first I was thinking slots for four razors and a brush and now I'm thinking six razor slots... :001_unsur

The OCMM is a great shaver indeed. Remember that the MM has two other variants: bullet-tip and clog-proof:)

What is/was your DE setup?

My very first time shaving with a DE, that's were I sliced myself. Oh man did I bleed. I was so used to the lack of care needed with a Fusion that I never thought twice about it. Oops.

and thinking about what local joints are good to scope out some finds.

Look for local "discovery" auctions. About 75% of the SE & DE razors I've found were in auction box lots. Second to that are flea markets and estate sales, rarely antique shops unless they have a wide range of goods. For most antique shops around here, razors other than throat cutters don't make it into their display cases.

You spelled "proof" wrong. Well, actually you spelled it right, which is wrong. See, on the Micromatic razor it's spelled "pruf", so, in order to spell it right, you have to spell it wrong. Does that make sense?

You sound like my mother-in-law.

Everyone was having a discussion about something or other and when it was pointed out that she was incorrect she proudly said:

"I'm your mother. Even when I am wrong I am right"

I've never forgotten that witty little comment :001_smile

That is pretty funny.

Oh man, ain't that the truth. It's even worse when you win. "Alright! Fourteen Gillette Techs in various states of decay at such a deal...now what on earth am I going to do with them?

At least fourteen at once is one package to smuggle in, a few in a week tests your ability to get them in the door. And then the Gem with the cartoon handle sure stands out from the rest. It's not like SWMBO wouldn't notice that one from a mile away.
