What's new

Just had my first shave!

Ok, I've actually been shaving for about 10 years, but this morning was my first DE shave - which in reality is the only true shave (so I stand by my thread title!!:biggrin1:)

Anyway, it was amazing. Felt a bit of pulling here and there as I started, but I didn't have the blade angle correct. Also I was a bit afraid of slicing up my mug, but only gave myself two very minor nicks (that were weirdly enough on the same spot of my face, just different sides). Then I finished up with some Brut Aftershave lotion and didn't have the burn I was expecting. There was a nice little "wake me up" sting, but it was actually really nice and invigorating.

Well, I guess the investment was worth it, and I think I'll use it again tomorrow (or maybe I'll just go back to my electric razor :facep:or actually NEVER!)

Thanks for helping me choose a great starter set - even if I was only lurking then...

Awesome! I started out on the 34C as well, it is a very nice razor. Between that and the Arlington, you really can't go wrong there!

Congratulations! My first DE shave was about 18 months ago. It was the best shave I had ever experienced, at least up until then.

If I got that poor quality of a shave now, I'd slap myself, rinse my face, and start over.

Your skill will radically improve with each shave, and you'll wonder how you ever put up with that cartridge shaving nonsense for all that time.

Welcome to the world of real shaving.

I just joined the club the other day but I wasn't looking for a magical shaving experience. When I first started to shave, I was a pimply faced teen so an electric was my only option. Over the years, I had numerous electrics but was never that happy with them. They would break after a few years and the blades would get dull and I was too cheap to replace them. When my last one broke, I went down to Target looking for the kind of razor my dad use to have; a DE safety razor. They didn't have any so I bought some cheap disposables. I was happy enough with the shaves I got with them and Barbasol as I have a pretty light beard. What bothered me was that every three days I was throwing a piece of plastic in the garbage. I had read a few threads about DE safety razors on other websites so I started frequenting this and other shaving websites. Finally, I broke down and bought what I am pretty sure was the same razor my father used; a black handled super speed. Seems to work just fine but I have a Tech and a slim adjustable on the way just in case!
