JUst got given a couple of Razors (What are they)

Hey,

I jusr got given two razors and brush that belonged to my Late father in law.

One is an F4 fatboy, in great condition, the other is a gillette three piece razor which I cannot date / identify. Any ideas?

the three piece is short handled, and has gillette etched into the head, no date codes anywhere I can see.

Ideas?

cool looking handle on the tech! Is the tech "made in England" I am by no means anything close to an expert...but the only handles similar to that that I've seen are on British techs.

HI,

Yep, made in england. I've cleaned it up, scrubbed the old soap residue off, and slight residue rust from an old blade, loaded it with an astra, and I'll be shaving with it tomorrow!

I'll report back how it goes!

Thanks Guys.

How would I go about dating the tech? There is no date code on it, so does this mean pre - 1950? this would make sense as I believe it to have previously belonged to my Father in laws father. It would be great if I could more conclusively date it (more for family sentimental reasons....)

The handle feels too heavy to be aluminium, so I would guess plated brass.

After looking over the Tech display at www.mr-razor.com, I think this might actually be a 1966 Canadian Tech (rather than a British Tech). In the late 1970s there was a similar looking Tech made in America, but it was all aluminum and, therefore, quite light.

Check out the site for yourself and compare the pictures with your razor; since you have it in your hand you might be able to make a better identification.

Asylum Guido or mr razor himself would be able to give you more definitive information.

It looks very close, However it is made in England, and Most likely was originaly purchased in New Zealand, (as that is where he lived for most of his life - If it wasnt NZ it was Australia).

I dont believe the handle to be aluminiun, as it is too heavy for that, and when I look down the threaded hole, I see some brassing, which tells me that it's plated.

No markings other than Gillette with the arrow through it and made in englad on the underside, and Gillette etched into the head.

It does look identical to the canadian tech, and the gilette sportsman razor. Both look very similar so could be either.

Shaved with it this morning, very nice shave, prefer it to my fatboy.

I'll keep searching for clues!
