What's new

Just got a Super Adjustable, now what?

Today my Aunt graciously gifted me my Uncle's long-handled 1976 Gillette Super Adjustable. Man, I'm really liking it. Can't wait to see how she shaves. Before I go and possibly break it I'd like to know if there's anything special I should know before operating this razor? Do I turn the settings dial with the doors open or closed or does it matter? Can I drop the whole thing into boiling water without damaging handle or should I use a cleaner like Barbicide? What about lubrication for the handle or doors? Thanks.

Adjust with the tto knob loosened.

Just be carefull not to use any cleaning products that are acidic in nature, the handle on yours I believe is anodized aluminum, harsh chemicals and or abrasives could destroy the ano. hand soap or dish soap would be the safest bet. barbicide wont hurt it 10 min and your good to go.

Most people loosen the wings before adjusting the dial. No need to open it wide open. Set it at about 4 or 5 to start out, and with a blade you like. Enjoy!

Warning!

The super adjustable has a little trick. After you select the setting and the head doors are closed YOU NEED TO TURN THE TTO STEM ANOTHER 1/4 TURN TO LOCK IN THE BLADE.

Otherwise the blade will not be fixed in position. Don't ask me how I know.

And do not change the setting without reversing the 1/4 turn (aka unlocking the blade).
