My dad suprised me with a shipment of Clubman, Bay Rum, and Vanilla. I've never used either but I've read so much on here about them, I'm excited to try!
Yeah he's pretty OK
Tried out the Clubman today. I knew it was going to sting just from reading all of the reviews, but I found it was actually a good sting. Refreshing, sounds weird, but you can almost feel your face saying "ahh" The smell was a little overpowering at first but after a few minutes it left a nice babypowder scent. It reminded me of when I lived in Japan. The last thing barbers would do there is brush talcum all over; the scent is exactly the same. For all I know they may have used Clubman powder. BTW in Japan they still use straight razors and warm lather to cut your sideburns and the back of your neck. I miss that!
Anyhow, Clubman passed the SWMBO sniff test which is really all that matters at the end of the day. Tomorrow is Bay Rum and 49ers going to the superbowl day. I'll give my take on that then.
Demaskee:Today was Bay Rum Day. WOW! If Clubman's burn was this Bay Rum's was this . I can see why some guys call this a winter aftershave. After the burn subsided (about 30 seconds) there was initally a strong, but pleasent cinnamon smell. This is funny becuase when I smelled the aftershave from the bottle I mainly smelled clove. Now that I have had it on for a little over an hour the cinnamon is fading and I am getting more clove out of it. I have to say it is probably my favorite aftershave smell yet. I'm curious to see the response it gets at work. I can't see it being too off-putting to anyone. Clubman will still remain in the rotation, but Bay Rum holds the top spot for now.
I only have 2-3 days left of my Clubman, but have Special Reserve and Vanilla on the way. I enjoyed the original very much.
Demaskee:
First of all, Thank You For Your Service!!!
I'm glad you're liking Clubman my shaving friend (my scent of choice is Citrus Musk!!),...and now;
You're a proud member (along with anyone using Clubman products), of the fictional, sacred and utopian Order of Pinaud (a.k.a.'The Club')".
I will now administer (written by our scribe, member Mario [a.k.a. Gatsby]), the Order of Pinaud sacred Oath...please raise your right hand and repeat after me;
"I do solemnly affirm that I will uphold my membership to the Order of Pinaud (a.k.a "The Club") through my loyalty to the fine A/S, my unwavering dedication to assist all wet shaving
enthusiasts, and to promote the iron-clad fellowship that is B & B.
I do swear this on my sword, my (name your razor), and, my lance, my (name your brush): my weapons of choice in smiting the daily scourge that is my stubble".

Demaskee:Thank you for your service as well!
And thank you for inducting me into what I can only assume to be the classiest of fictitious aftershave clubs (whether it is true or not). From here I plan to sally forth into a disbelieveing world espousing the various scents of Pinaud except on Mondays of course, which is reserved for Old Spice. Tomorrow I will be trying Vanilla for the first time. I'll report my findings then!
Today was Vanilla day. I was expecting the cool sting I got from original Clubman, but it was much milder . The smell was really nice though; it actually reminds me of British Sterling which I was not expecting. Not sure if my sniffer is broken but if anyone else feels the same way please feel free to corroborate my claim.
I think my dad hit a home run with all three of these scents. I would try and rank them, but that would be like comparing apples to oranges. For now I'll continue to rotate them all and recommend each to anyone wanting to try an old school flavor!
